Does the silent circut negate ALL pickup noise, so that it is really clean?

when the 9V goes dead, then it get really noisy?

I think it cancels a 60 MHZ hum - but shoot don't quote me on that - someone like Beej'll know!!

If the battery goes dead then the hum enters into the equation but you can still use the AL. The battery also powers the piezo in my case so that would not be working when the battery goes flat.
Does this mean you are getting an AL??

Hey Brent! Way to go on getting an AL - welcome to the club. Secret password and decoder ring will be sent when pics are posted! ;)

As for your original question - it does not cancel all of the hum completely, but it comes real darn close. I think the system is designed to minimize the hum as much as is possible without affecting the tone coming out of the instrument (thank the maker!). You can still hear some 60 cycle hum in the 1, 3, 5 positions but none in the 2 & 4 when you are using quite a bit (and I mean really quite a bit) of gain/distortion. I have been testing my AL exactly for this over the last few days, and it truly is amazing. The hum is so slight that you can play with as much gain as you want, provided your not going crazy and not pointing the pickups right at the amp, and it will hardly be noticeable. It is really that good.

What's this silent circuit thing you guys speak of? ;)

"Real" Al's don't need no steenkin' silent circuit...

I notice very little noise with mine. There is *some*, but it's nothing that takes away from the guitar at all. Turn away from the monitor and it goes away...

Nice score there Brent, and I agree with Rob, "Finish What Ya Started" is begging for the Al.

Hey- congrats Brent! Can't wait to see 'er!

Yup, +1 on what's been said on the silent circuit. It doesn't get rid of all the hum but does a decent job (and you do notice it when the battery dies!). You can tweak the silent circuit as well to your environment- there's a small set screw in it for adjustment.
