AL with humbuckers

Hey, I'm new to the forum, and I just wanted to hear some thoughts and opinions on this subject...

I've always thought Music Man's Albert Lee model was a pretty cool design, but I've never really looked into one because they're currently not offered with humbucking pickups.

I know the singles on the AL are supposed to be noiseless, but I need the power of humbuckers to be fully satisfied sound-wise...I'm not like a metalhead or anything like that, and I can appreciate single-coil tones (especially with chorus and flanger effects on top), but I need to have the at least the option of entering the Chunky Zone (Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and so on).

I sent the idea to Music Man via the "Make A Suggestion" button on their site, but am I in a minority? Have any of you wished for an AL with an Axis or Sillhouette style pickup configuration, or hotrodded your own ALs with hotter pickups?

why not buy one and put your favorite humbucker into it? maybe even a stacked single coil?

The MM90 pickups are killer, and leave no real need for humbuckers on the AL. We had an MM90 AL arrive at the store today and I was blown away by the sound.

I too would love an AL with humbuckers, the P90's are cool too but a bucker in the bridge would kick ass, they should offer a body routed for that at least so we have that option without having to route, maybe someday, until then I have my axis and silo special -

i can see why you'd maybe want a humbucker in the bridge on an AL, but have you tried the MM90's? They are killer.

Give an MM90 AL a shot, I used mine for plenty of heavier tracks including Alice In Chains "It Ain't Like That" & Man in a Box with no probs whatsoever !!!

Welcome to the forum.If its humbuckers you want go for the Axis but you won't need buckers on an Albert. Try one with MM90's and a Boss Blues overdrive pedal believe me you'll get everything you're after and more !

Doesn't Blues Saraceno play an AL with humbuckers? Couldn't you talk to him about having one manufactured as his signature model?

I mentioned it before, but why not buy one and put humbuckers in it? That'll be the only way unless you can talk Albert around

there's still life in old Albert yet, plenty of time for him to get on the current bandwagon of 80's rock and become a metalhead, and get a humbucker in the AL!

Yeah, both Blues and Dweezil Zappa have Humbucker AL's.

I've said, and will continue to say that if there's ever an EBMM Saraceno model, I'll order one in a heartbeat!

If I were you, I'd try an AL P90 and then see if

a) You love the guitar as much as I think you will and whether
b) The P90s aren't hot enough for you.

If you LOVE the guitar but NEED humbuckers, just rout it for 'buckers - it's below the scratchplate for crying out loud (i.e. even if you make a mess of it, noone will ever know)!
I routed one of my Malmsteen Strats for a humbucker in the bridge position (dead easy) and it was my main player for a good three years... Even if I have turned my eyes to 7-string guitars the last couple of months, I'll never sell my HSS Malmsteen Strat - the humbucker simply opened a new world of tone to this guitar and it's my tone... sadly, I'm still searching for that sound on my 7 - I hope I'll get closer!

Every once in awhile AL's pop up on Ebay or some other site.

No need to tear up a new one if you need a bucker in the bridge position.

Try out any EBMM you can find with the MM90's in it, it may change your mind

I have an AL with SCs. With my Orange it dirties up pretty well, but there are times when I just want that HB tone that no SC can give. That's when I stomp on this:

If you haven't tried one, you'll have no idea what you're missing.

one of my students has that SD pickup booster, great unit! always brings it in to his lesson instead of a gain pedal.

I thought for sure that I'd want to put a Humbucker in my albert when I got it,
WRONG!!! I need to try one with MM90's but my single coils are GREAT sounding for everything. I'm off to South Carolina next weel to start tracking my bands second cd all I'm making the treck out there with is my albert and sub1
