I am GASSING bad for an AL BFR. You folks out there who own them, give me the good, bad, and ugly. Do you think they are worth the price? Do you actually play them out or keep them at home only? Tell me about the necks, electronics, tuners, etc., please!

I bring mine to pretty much every gig, and generally use it to play Pink Floyd and some Big & Rich, although tonight I am bringing the y2d for a change.

Up until I tried the AL BFR at NAMM 2008, I would have never bought a guitar with 3 single coils. The clarity, balance, and bell-like tone won me over the moment I played it. I opted for a tremolo, non-piezo version. The neck feels just like the regular AL. The pickups are a comfortable output, although they are not quite as loud as my JP which sits in the #1 spot for gigs.

I love the BFR AL, and I can't say enough good things about it. Get out there buy one!

I swapped pickguards for this vid, it now has the white one on it again...

What Pete said is 100% dead on, he raved about at NAMM and I bought one from him quickly, worth every dollar, just an awesome guitar, it is my number one and will always be not much you can not do with it, I go from progressive country to hard rock no problem, buy one now and by the way by it from Pete he has a couple of nice ones in stock.:)

I just love the looks of the thing. Even though I've had several Strats I never had one make it to my number one, but I think this guitar definitely has the potential to do so. I've also never owned a guitar with a quilted or flame top, and that part of it intrigues me as well.

Pete, great playing and tone!

Do most of them weigh in the 7 1/2 lb range?

I had many a day dream about a BFR AL with the limited RW neck option.....

Fantastic playing Pete. Not to hijack the thread...but could you post a video of the Gold Roller you're expecting to get in soon (unless you already sold it). I'm so curious as to how that guitar sounds.

I know the tremolo models feel slightly heavier than the hardtail models, but I don't know the exact weights. The figured top is a great bonus on this guitar, but the way it sings and just melts into your hands is what won me over.

The Gold Roller will be here soon after The NAMM Show. I guess I can do a vid... :D

Love the pickguard choice Pete, might have one myself...

As for AL's they're easy

Imagine a guitar that (IMHO) does strat tele, maybe even a semi type twang - lightweight, small body, neck like butter, - that's an AL.

I would have a zillion of them if my bank balance would allow it - these are AMAZING guitars, and will turn any 'traditional brand' player.....

give one a spin in your music shop - you won't be disapointed!

Wish I could comment but neither of my AL's are BFR (I have licked Smelly's though!!)

But Smelly is right about the AL - gotta be amongst the best guitars out there.

Pete, the die-hard Petrucci guy . . . . . !

That is great tone and playing! That guitar sounds better than the strat on the album.

It´s very funny - everybody thinks (including me until I read something other), that´s this studio-version of the solo from Gilmour was done by a Strat. But I read he used a Gibson Les Paul! It´s mentioned here. This is the best source I could find quickly

Hey Rob, one more question. Which do you like better...the BFR AL or a standard AL with MM90 PUs? I know you're a huge fan of the MM90's. Just curious which you think sounds better.

Al

Maybe its the most versatile single coil out there? I have a 2000 model and its superb. My other electric is a 6 lb tele 52 reissue and I love it but if push came to shove...I hate to think about it. All thangs considered, the AL is a magnificent guitar.
