I attended my first AL clinic last night just north of Toronto and have to say it was an awesome time! My good buddy Jazzbo Jim was also in attendance (and I'm sure there must have been another few forumites in the audience).

The fellas at The Arts put on a fantastic show including an opening band featuring Lance Romance on vocals. Those guys were awesome!

It was an incredible pleasure to see Albert. His playing was phenomenal, but more than anything I enjoyed just listening to his stories about getting started as a player and his life playing with just about everyone. (My mom is about the same age and from the same part of London and I loved the growing up in London stories). And, of course, his Ball family stories - great to hear stories that complement the ones that Sterling has told. When asked about his favourite new players he took a minute to plug Tyler (aka "Sterling's Discovery"). Finally, I was pretty darn happy to have him sign my AL

Anyway, just wanted to say thank you to Albert Lee, who is a true gentleman. Also to The Arts, Glenn Booth and of course Ernie Ball for making the whole thing possible.

If you haven't caught an AL clinic ... see one soon!

Canada LOVES The Al...and how can you argue with that? :) :) :) Good stuff!! 265 people were packed in there last night. :D

Beej,
I'm jealous man. Al is one of those guys that I hope to eventually see in a clinic setting.

Where did you have him sign your Al?

I am a real n00b when it comes to Lee's music. Only since I joined this forum I had seen a few videos on youtube - yes the man smokes!

What would be a good Albert Lee cd to start with?

I've only been around Albert a time or two, but it certainly is easy to fall in love with the guy.

And he plugged Tyler! Wow.

Nice post beej - I'm still waiting myself to see Mr. Lee

What would be a good Albert Lee cd to start with?

His last two solo albums are fairly recent and should be available on i-tunes or in the country section of major retailers. Road Runner and Heartbreak Hill (which features a smokin' instrumental version of Luxury Liner with Vince Gill and Brad Paisley)

or...if you're a metal guy... Albert does a guest stint on John5's album Songs for Sanity :)

Forgot to mention this the other day- I caught one of the "The Blues" documentaries on PBS. This was was called Red, White & Blues about the influence of the blues in the early British scene and how it was brought back to America. Great documentary and had clips and interviews with Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and of course Albert to name just a few. I'm a total whore for that period of music (I have a ton of old Yardbirds albums on vinyl).
