Hello everyone, new guy here.

Just picked up a beautiful Albert Lee guitar (orange with wood grain showing through), and it could use some relief. I see some sort of gear (?) at the base of the neck, but I didnt get any tools or manual with the guitar, so don't know how to adjust the neck. Can anyone help me out? thanks, David B:eek:

Thats is the Music Man truss rod. To use it take a screwdriver, allen wrench ect. Insert it into one of the holes and turn clockwise for relief counter clockwise for tension.

Yup +1 on that - just turn it a little at a time (one holes worth) and let it settle before you tighten/loosen any more.

thanks for the quick help. This is a great forum, glad I stumbled across it. In return, I attach a photo of my new baby. And finally, please forgive my ignorance, but who is Big Poppa ?

Lucious is none other than Steve Lukather

John Petrucci is... well... John Petrucci

How cool is that!!!

Not like, it slove...great finish, smoking neck, you can see for yourself. P-90's are great as well......
thanks for the welcome

Welcome.

At EBMM, the pickups are called MM90's not P90's for future reference.

Seems to me that we've seen that guitar before, I'm pretty sure that it once belonged to JimiD. Then I'm pretty sure it made it's way to New England and it's been on the Bay a couple of times.

What's the Serial Number?

Not to confuse the guy, but when you are talking about turning the truss rod clockwise and counterclockwise, which way are you looking at the guitar. Cause if you are looking down the neck from the body(looking toward the headstock), you should turn the truss rod counter clockwise for relief to get rid of buzzing etc. And clockwise for tension. Am I correct?

thanks for everyone's kind words. The serial number is G17504. I turned the truss rod one hole in the direction toward the low E string, and it gave me more tension, just enough. playing fine now, intonations is good as well. Now, while I have your attention, can anyone tell me more about the battery compartment on the rear ? active pickups?

I was like you - had never adjusted a truss rod in my life. i have owned guitars for 35 years. I did exactly as you did and the problem was solved. Easy huh?

Hope you enjoy that guitar as much as I am enjoying my AL. Non AL owners are missing out !!
