Any fan who attended TOTO shows over the last year noticed that Mike Porcaro had toured after having sustained a very painful injury to his left hand. Despite the fact that it was difficult, Mike persevered and played each and every date of the first leg of the Falling In Between Tour. After returning home, Mike sought medical treatment and has been recovering nicely; however, he has not been able to recuperate in time to join the band on the upcoming tour.

"I was hoping that the situation would be better by now," Mike states, "but it hasn’t improved. It’s gonna take a while. I’m working on it, and I hope to be back in the saddle soon enough. But, unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to make this upcoming run. Nobody feels worse about it than me, but that’s the reality of it."

Despite the short notice, TOTO have recruited one of the best bass players around to substitute for Mike: acclaimed session musician and life-long friend Leland (Lee) Sklar. "Those of you on the TOTO Network have seen Lee; he’s a big part of the Network and what we’re trying to do there with the web. He’s going to play bass and you’re going to love it. You’re in great hands," says Mike, and jokes, "Come on down and see him play and see a real bass player."

All the best wishies to Mike and see ya on Turin at the and of the mounth;)

Toto has been through so much over the years, oh man. Lee is a hell of a player and Mike is one of the most peaceful human beings I´ve ever had the pleasure to meet. He will come back stronger. All the best.

Thanks for the well wishes. I will pass them to Mike. He is way bummed, obviously, and needs a long time to recover. As musicians on this board or anywhere, you KNOW there is nothing worse than losing your hands. This condition has worsened over the last year and we waited till the last moment in hopes he would get better but his Dr's say he has to deal with this serious problem and hopefully he will be back ASAP!
We are honored to have Lee Sklar, one the the greats filling in for him. Lee and I go back 30 some odd years and he has been a dear friend and Mike chose him himself to let us carry on till he gets well. Sklar's discography is staggering. Anyone interested can check out www.Totonetwork.com and see for yourself. Classic records. Billy Cobham Spectrum, Phil Collins , James Taylor just to get started and there is ALOT of humour and info on that site anyways if you care to check it out.
Again, thanks for the kind words and *I* will be seeing all those who will attend any of the euro shows comin up. I leave Mon to headline the Dubai jazz festival and then off to europe for a month. yee ha.

I saw that on the site. THere's a really nice video message from Mike on the network too. Not many band swould have done that for the fans. Nothing worse than tendon or ligament injuries, they just take their own sweet time and best not to aggrevate them (been there, done that, bought the inflatable monkey) so its a very wise choice. All the best to him and wishing a speedy recovery. Will the DVD shoot still be going ahead for Paris in that case?
