Mac's bass lines on the Beatles records were very influenced by his piano playing, IMO. I realize that many posts here were in good fun, but thought it appropriate to mention this...

well i used to be one, jus like chuck here...and i can tell you guys for a fact that we make great bassists!

Way back in collage everyone in the music program had to take a few hours of piano. The theory being that it could be used as a common language to share ideas with any musician, no matter what you play.

Playing the bass actually helped my keyboard playing; I developed a lot more strength in both hands. It also works the other way around too; general knowledge of harmony is very beneficial to bass playing.

I guess I’m a musician first and practice more than one discipline. But I’m having more fun with bass than I’ve had in years and I truly want to be good at it.

The first instrument I played was piano. From 5 years old until I quit when I took up trumpet in the 7th grade. I think in "keyboard". When I think of a note or chord, my mind always goes back to the piano as a visual reference as to where the note or chord is in relation to other notes and chords.

BAss replaced the violin after my 1st Kiss concert.

Othere instruments have passed through these hands - bass has never left.

I've never had a desire to learn anything else but bass. There are so few of us around here, I never had time to think about another instrument. It's always been a steady gig for me.

I had a great time last week and I'm looking forward to this week as well. I've got a bid on eBay for another Ashdown amp to leave at the gig and I got a haircut so my cowboy hat will fit again.

At this gig I am the bass player, (for better of worse )

I think you're a bass player. You've felt the power. You can't go back.

I picked up a guitar at a jam the other day, and after about 1 minute I was thinking "I'm just in the middle of all this midrange crap, I have no power to move the band" and I went back to my bass.

We do have incredible power in a band, which (IMHO) is why restraint (taste) is a sought after quality. Gotta know when to use it...

and don't let the guitarist push you aroun unless he has a reason, don't be a wimp, you have the possibility to piss everyone off with the bass use it.(j/k)

so true i hate neighbors and parents and roommates and drummers that cant bang hard enough and guitarists with wussy amps and bands in the reherssal room next door ...

one of the reasons i love the bass is the rumble and i HATE it when people ask me to turn it down. its not my fault its 3am

honestly tho ... i end up playing unplugged a lot b/c people suck.
