Someone posted this video in the guitar section, enquiring about JP's tone, however John Petrucci's greatness aside, I think it's worth showing here also the excellence of DLR's playing and the tone he gets out of that Bongo 5. Totally amazing

Enjoy:

Mrs.sitonmybass and I own the DVD that this is from. I'm a big Dave LaRue fan. Dave teaches at Bass Central and even though I'm friends with Beaver, I've yet to meet Dave when I've been there, but I certainly hope to!

You're not getting too old. Your head is stuffed full of thoughts about buying yet ANOTHER EBMM bass.

I thoroughly +1 this - a six string by all accounts :D no wonder he has Mr Patit**** on the brain ;)

(I think he's talking about the Grand Wazoo Mr SOMB - but I may be wrong as I am also getting v old!!)

I know that Dave gets some "unique" basses from MM. Ayone know what color that Bongo is he's playing in the video?? Looks like a sunburst orange of some kind.

I just watched the clip - superb stuff from all the musicians. The Bongo sounds great but that guitar playing is something else - awesome sound as well.

Dang, I am drooling right now over the guitar and bass playing. The drummers pretty good too. Very nice! Isn't J.P. the guitarist from Dream Theater?

Sweet! I really like that band a lot. I bought their first album and then never heard anything from them after that. Later on, I found out they did release other albums but for some reason they never got any air play in San Diego. All of those guys are definitely talented. Glad to see they use awesome gear too.

With Dave LaRue, I would love to get some of his teaching stuff. When I was watching the video, I was amazed at his bass playing. Simply amazing!

They don't get a lot of radio play anywhere, according to Mike Portnoy. People don't wanna hear a 10 min progressive metal song on the radio. Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber on the other hand... :(

If you haven't already, check out Scenes From A Memory and Train of Thought. I still listen to most of the songs off those two albums daily... :p

All of those [Dream Theater] guys are definitely talented.

I'd call that the understatement of the year...

However, the DT song I like most is their live rendition of Dark Side Of The Moon (yeah, they played that whole PF album in one go) ;)
