I suppose this could be an everlasting thread with all the varieties and preferences there are - I have done some recording miking up my amp, but at the moment have a BOSS GT8 which I have had a go with but mainly using AMPLITUBE and have recently upgraded to v2,and am very happy with this so far although it does seem to be CPU hungry!!!!
So much to learn!!!:D

Hello

My Marshall DSL401 when the kids are awake.

Zoom G21u when they are sleeping ... Nice little box, cheap (150 euros) with good sounds and an USB interface.

VST plugins are great but you need to have a good CPU otherwise you're in trouble.

Hasta luego

I use a Boss GT-8 (with various spacey pedals in the fx loop) into a Mesa 20/20 tubed stereo power amp and two Avatar 212GH Specials. The GT-8 has speaker emulation for direct recording, and I can mix this with mic'ing the cabs for a huge variety of tones.

I don't know how well known these are outside the UK yet, but the Cornford Harlequin is absolutely superb! Don't have one myself but have heard the recorded results and they are great.

This is a high quality, all valve combo rated at 6 watts. I understand that it was specifically designed for recording hence the low output enabling you to drive it really hard at home recording levels.

I seem to have solved most of my guitar recording needs with the Univalve. The ability to swap tubes is a lifesaver and the tone is to die for anyway. :D

I use the line/instrument out directly to the sound card or via a cabinet simulator. Or I may process the dry signal with Guitar Rig 2 (cabinets only).

Guitar Rig also comes handy for some "peculliar" tone choices. ;)
