Hi
I always been a Markbass lover I have the Markbass LittleMark II, which I feel its the prefect amp with 500 watts to knock out my drummer and guitarist at the same time. I recently for no reason at all got myself into a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0. This GB is another planet, the tube preamp gives me more tonal sounds than my LMII (and more power 900 watts) but for small gigs I feel its too much power and I end with master vol at 1 or 2, the problem as you may figure is that you loose the a lot on the tone, especially the bass at that volume. I dont do small gigs regularly. So should I return the GB or sell the LMII or keep both?

What cab(s) are you using? You might want to try an 8 ohm load with this monster so that you're only using 500 watts.

I'm very interested to hear your response, as this is going to be my next amp.

As a Genz Benz owner myself I don't see that you have a problem. I have 12.0 ShuttleMax and as you know it is two 600 watt amps in one head. Headroom is a good thing and you have plenty of it. My master volume is always around 12 o'clock and then the volume I control with the pre gain and volume. I rarely touch these controls and play rooms of all sizes as well as outside. Personally I never run the volume on my bass wide open because I have never had the need. I play both with and without sound support. I surely don't have any issues with tonal control and most I do with the bass and not the amp. Best wishes and do what you thinks is best for you.
