So I need a new amp to go along with my wondeful Luke. I play mostly prog/tech metal and I play a lot of Death tunes. I also play a lot of clean stuff and someday hope to own a 7 string so I can play Dream Theater, etc. I am not sure how many metallers there are around here, but I thought I would ask anyways.
I need something versatile with great distortions and cleans. In my band we use a lot of pinch harmonics, various harmonies, and I play a lot of chord based progressions that use all or a lot of the strings... Something like Extol meets Killswitch Engage. I need something with good mids and a punchy low end while still maintaining clarity.
I played a Dual Rec yesterday and it sounded pretty good. Only got a chance to play it for a few minutes. The clean channel was perfect. The distortion sounded pretty good but man are those amps noisy. The distortion could have been a little more tight too. I did not really use the crunch channel.
So I am thinking I will need a two channel head that does hot have a shared eq. I will have around $1500 to spend and I am looking to get something that I can possibly run in stereo and something that is easy to mod if I need to (new tubes, etc, etc,)
any suggestions?
