What they do, and what they are supossed to do may be two different things!! And, each in turn may affect the way the other operates, just like any "eq" knob.

However, I'm sure you know what presence and resonance are "supossed" to do!

What the Valve King Manual Says

RESONANCE (ValveKing® 212 and 100 Head only)
This patented feature, available only from Peavey, is used to fine-tune the low-frequency response and damping factor of the power amp section. At higher settings, the speakers are allowed to move more freely at low frequencies, resulting in more apparent low end with slightly less signal clarity at maximum settings.
PRESENCE (ValveKing 212 and 100 Head only)
This control is used to fine-tune the high-frequency response and damping factor of the power amp section. At higher settings, the speakers are allowed to move more freely at high frequencies, resulting in more apparent high end.

I find lower Presence settings and medium resonance settins sound best. Higher Presence may give your rhythm sounds more 'crunch' but when you go for a lead, it throws ice picks and thins out the tone of the higher strings.

Using too much presence is one of the most common mistakes people make. Dial up a tone with the presence at zero and just add what is needed.
