Ampeg SVT CLASSIC: UPDATE
It's on the truck and out for delivery....will have a review SVT CL vs SVT 1000 (which is going back). Also, tomorrow, Svt 410hlf is being delivered. Review on that to follow also vs Svt 810e.
UPDATE; Ths CL arrived and away went the 1000. The combination of the MMSR and the all tube head is heaven. A "warmth" comes out of the bottom now that the 1000 did not have. I am awaiting the SVT 410hlf bottom and will be using it on rehearsal next week. Should be an interesting combo with the CL.
This is the second SVT CL I have owned in three months. I have had some problems with Ampeg gear, and it has taken a bit to get it right. This CL is louder and fuller than the original CL I had and also sounds better than the s/s 1000, all though not as much headroom.
I'm not going to get into the "Vintage" SVT's are the only "true" Ampeg Svt. This head is brand new, with warrantee and the latest modern parts. There is clearly a tremendous tone difference with this head...I belive I finally got a good head.
The difference between tone from the Ric to the StingRay is unmistakeable. The SR has the active eq that makes up for the lost bottom end I was looking for with the CL head. The SVT 1000 head had a graphic eq and was easy to dial in some 50-80hz boost when using the RIC...the Music Man has that capability itself....very pleased with the combination.
