amps

I tried my SR4 through a lot of amps last summer (SVT3,4,cl,VB4H etc...) but the one that came out way on top was the Mesa 400+. I've been looking for a deal on a used one ever since.

The ampegs I've tried my musicmans through all sound too "fuzzy" for me. I like more clarity in the low mids. I'll stick with my SWR's.

OTOH, I never really taken a lot of time to sit down with an Ampeg and work on pulling a good sound out of it (except for an old B-15, and that doesn't count).

Keep on looking, cybrpunk. They are definitely worth the wait. I play my Bongo 5, StingRay 5 fretless and sometimes even my Ken Smith BT5G (Not much though since Bongo arrived:( ) and it is the best amp I've ever played on.

Got mine on Harmony Central for $750.00 used in perfect condition - You should check the ads out daily because additions are made daily.

In fact there's one just listed on 5-7-04 for $800 in SKB case (a BARGAIN). Scroll about 3/4 of the way down on the above link.
Here's the description:

"Mesa Boogie 400+ w/skb case for sale
Asking Price: US$800
Condition: Excellent
Age: 20 years
Description:

Excellent shape, 800 bucks firm. I've got my eyes on the amp of my dreams & I need to come up with the cash fast! Perferably Chicago or somewhere in the vicinity, but I'm not opposed to shipping it as long as the buyer covers the cost.
Seller: James Barron,
E-mail: jamesalvinbarron (Profile)
Location: Chicago, IL
Post Date: 5/7/2004"

(Harmony Central Tip: I always ask for their ebay username. If they don't have one I don't buy anything from them. Never been burnt yet);)

man...you guys is making my jealous!!

I've got a mesa m2000 that i absolutely love and chances are won't get rid of, but i want a 400+ as well!!

my ultimate rig would be 2 aguilar 2x12's, my m2000, and a 400+ with an A/B switch, damn! that would absolutely tear apart any club i roll into. tear apart the stage too!

I've got the vehicle to move the gear, i just can't convince myself to haul around that much crap!! worse part is...i've got the rack to fit it all too!!!

I just need to talk myself into it....

on that note, i adore my m2000. the tube channel is nice and clear and fat. the fet channel is midrangey and punchy. the gain channel has a nice rich tube overdrive, and the mix channel is a good mix of the OD and the fet...

you can find em used still, no new ones anymore, it's discontinued for some absurd reason..

i suggest checking it out. it's 40 pounds lighter than the svtcl or 400+

thanks
joel D.
