Haha my jazz chops aren't the greatest but I love trying haha.
I use the 20th and my Lukes.

Both great.
Luke is just super versatile full stop. Check out the tone on lukather/carlton album.

@ 3.03 you get a good look.

Is it an EMG SAV ?

Are the SLV's just SAVs with covers ?

The nice focused tone of the 20th coupled with the way the guitar sounds with the tone knob rolled down just enough makes it a very jazz-like instrument. The fact that it's 24 frets makes it uber-playable, unlike some of the larger conventional jazz guitars.

The neck pickup of the Morse is nice for jazzy sound. You can play everything with a Morse.
John Petrucci has also a nice jazzy tone (I think a blend of the piezo and the humbuckers) : just check the duo with Jordan Rudess (the album called An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess).

Jazz? Neck (or middle) position of Super Sport thru clean channel of Dr Z Galaxie with either a 112 or 210 cabinet. Also, the Super Sport works nicely with a Z-28 and 210 cab or Fender Deluxe Reverb. try it. you'll like it. while it may not be quite traditional a la West Montgomery, Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, Charlie Christian, Joe Pass or many of the other greats there are definitely some great sounds/tones to be had whether playing all them complicated chords and patterns, soloing or even octave runs. :)

just my .02, imho, ymmv, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

cheers always, eh

Cool thread

I'm glad you posted this. I spent some time A/B'ing my BFR Petrucci to a Hamer USA Newport (their first shot at a jazz oriented guitar, and a nice guitar at that).

I was very pleasantly surprised to hear how well the Petrucci could mimic good jazzy sounds. When I played through the neck humbucker, decreased the volume a bit and the tone even more, I got a respectable jazzy sound.

I was playing through my POD 2.0 running into a Tech21 Powerengine.

Good luck!

I'm no jazz player, but I can get jazz tones from my hardtail Silo out of the two positions closest to the neck. My favorite positions for cleans BTW. I guess the 20th Silo with the tone block does the neck humbucker jazz tone better than mine.

I would think the 25th (being chambered and such, and having a neck HBer and 22 frets) would get very jazzy. Haven't played one, but I'd be really surprised if I'm wrong on this one.
