The Silo and Morse are great Swiss army knives.
However, I think which neck he'd be most comfortable with would be most important in the decision.

Welcome!

Every single EBMM is highly versatile in the right hands and with the right amplifiers.

You'll get many different responses from people, as we all love different things with our guitars. From a personal persective, I have 3 Axis Sports, SSS, HSS and HH I've got an Axis Super Sport HH with piezo and a 20th silhouette HH with piezo. The band that I'm with plays a wide variety of music and I have no hesitation taking any of them out to a gig or rehearsal.

The best thing is to try as many as he can, with his current setupo and see which one 'speaks' to him the most.

Not flexible? Hm.....let's see.... John Petrucci has a very wide dynamic of songs to play at any live show and he totes those things around with him. Also, someone on the forums has pictures of John Fogerty playing a JP at the Grammys or some other awards ceremony.

So I'd say it's pretty dynamic.

Can't beat a Luke for all-round versatility - just think about the different genres the man himself plays ;)

I agree with Foggy - there are some EB's I can't get on with because of the feel of the neck.
Now I think we would have to agree that the strat is a very flexible guitar? - Well an Albert Lee blows it away.
I guess that a Silo would be similar.

Fellow forumite Beej has most models of EB guitar and I think I'm right in saying that he would opt for the Morse guitar.
Let us know how it pans out?

I have a JP7 w/piezo currently coupled with a JSX amp. I can get an incredible number of unique tones for both recording and live situations. Now if it were equipped with midi...

..hi..this is very subjective of course..
..i have a silo (with floyd rose i have to admit...) that really does it all...it goes from the most singing twang to the fattest quack to really heavy rock in just one moment (the time it takes to fiddle with the 5-way selector)...ok, i am changing the pickguard and the pickups right now (which is really comfortable via the molex connector) but i am just doing this because i need the real metal thing right now..all the other sounds are being very well delivered..

..i know i am not making friends right now, but i also had a jp7 which because of the neck and the sounds (!) didnt do it for me and i also have an ass which is great fun to play but regarding the versatility the silo stays my personal number one..

..best regards, erik..

I'd have to say it's probably the SSH config Silo Spec... or the Luke... But actives don't necessarily deliver what true single coils do... Sometimes when you need that certain tone, only a real passive, low output single coil will do...

Welcome to the forums!

I have have played many different guitars and the Luke has been a nice easy fit for me. I found it pretty easy to get comfortable with. I can't tell you anything about the other necks, but from what I've read, they are all amazing. i would experiment with all of them to get the best one that would be suitable.

Silo Special is the most versatile guitar I've ever played. I'd agree that the question could be more focused toward, say, classic rock or country or modern rock style. That would make narrowing the choices down a bit easier, imo.

Most versatile/all around ebmm electric guitar?

I'd be looking at either a Silo or a Morse. Think they cover everything and then some ....

'course, an ASS with piezo or the fully loaded JP6 would git 'er done too, eh:D:cool:

cheers always, eh

Versatility is relative ... what kind of music does he like? Easier to figure out which one suits his style if we know he likes blues, prog-rock, jazz, etc.

Style aside, the suitability of a guitar has a lot more to do with feel (neck size, body size, fret height) and features than what genre it will be used to play.

Take him to a store with a few different EBMMs in stock and let him go nuts :)
