While on a trip to San Antonio (GO SPURS GO) this past weekend, I had the chance to stop by House of Guitars. They had not received their shipment of Silos yet, but they did have a luke and an axis, plus a few subs. I've played the axis, silo, and luke before. I loved the neck on the axis, it felt great (all maple) and more comfortable (to me) than the luke, more comfortable than my melody maker and my fly mojo (currently for sale). I wasn't able to compare it to the neck of a silo. So for all of you silo and axis owners, can I get a few neck comparisons thrown my way?
Thanks

Thanks, Rob. Appreciate the quick feedback. Yeah, I noticed the fatness of the neck, but it was very comfortable. I distinctly remember the all rosewood axis I had played before; I absolutely loved that neck. This neck was all maple, which I didn't think I would like, but it felt just as comfortable. It just seemed fun to play.
Thanks again,

dont know of many people who have played an Axis and NOT raved about the neck, i think its one of those necks that everyone just likes, but the silo is a bit thinner, but not really thin like a JP or even the Y2D, which has a thinner neck than the silo.

I know you've said that your silo special is your desert island guitar. Is that based on sound variety, playability, or both?

I personally like the C shape of my Sil Special necks more than I did the asymmetrical shape of my Axis Sport neck.

both great shapes imo. I used to think the Silo neck shape was miles better than everything else out there till I first played an Axis - now theres nothing lazier than that big fat bass side shoulder on the axis imo - makes me want to take it easy and chug out big fat riffs all night:)

I don't have penis envy, but I do envy those with long fingers :D. I think the Axis neck would be great, but my fingers just aren't long enough for that style neck.

more based on sound, and the different tones it offers, the Super Sport is a fabulous guitar, but its no match for the Silo Special, if single coils are your thing. if you want humbucker greatness with very useable clean sounds then Axis SS it is. if only the silo special had a slightly fatter neck.......

I have fat, stubby fingers too, but it felt very comfortable to me. I like my little melody maker's 12" radius neck; it's pretty fat. Perhaps I should try another silo again to get a better idea.

:D

I have to be patient right now. I know that :1) I have to focus on starting a family, 2) pay off some debt, and 3) learn to play what I have better, so as to fully enjoy and appreciate the great guitar that is ernieball.
So, as I try different models and gather information, I also dream:

My dreams need detail ;)

If you can have two, one of each is great. If you can only swing one, I'd try 'em all, and then decide.

My comment on preference is entirely relative. Compared to other guitars I've had, the Axis neck was ace. For me the Silo feels even better. But that's just me.
