I found a Sterling 5H on ebay last week and bought it NOW! The funny thing is that I was planning on buying one down the road a bit, but this one was already done in the color I was planning on + matching headstock + rosewood board - yes, major GAS for these Sterling 5's! See "my photo album" for my little collection of EB/MM's.

Very nice!! Matching headstock looks real nice on the PBB.

I'm thinking of getting a second one as well (tobacco/rosewood/HH), although I'm having trouble getting the idea past the girlfriend. I might just sell one of the others off to make it happen. These Sterling 5s are great basses!

That used to work for me when I was married - had to sell something to get something. I can buy whatever I want now - and I am doing that. The Sterling 5's ARE great basses. I've been waiting for these for a long time. The SR5 body is too big. The SUB 5 was cool, but it's history. I have another Sterling 5 on order - fretless HH, rosewood, tobacco burst - like the one you're thinking of getting! The Sterling 5 is my new favorite bass, and I've tried them all. I've had a pair of pre-Gibson Tobias Killer B 5's - fretted and fretless, and those were my favorites for years - like since 1990 or so, but they'll now be staying home while I play the new EB/MM's.

Is the neck on this similar to a Stingray 5 or is it narrower? It looks to me like it might be a little tighter at the nut.
It's a beauty! No control plate at the knobs? Is there a back access panel then?
(sorry, I've never seen one of these in person...)

Well, even I feel somewhat silly for owning as many basses as I do. I pay a lot more attention to some than others. I should be using my money to pay down debt, save for a down payment on a house, think about kids, etc. Ha!

Looking forward to hearing about your fretless, I bet it's going to be awesome.
