I tried a forum members JP7 for about 5 seconds and I knew immediately it wasn't for me. The neck was so much wider it threw everything else off for me.

I'm sticking to 6 strings myself.

I have tried 7 strings and it just does not compute in my head! But hey! Horses for courses!

Nice couple of posts - welcome.

I'm glad you liked the piezo - it is an awesome addition to have.
Play the piezo through an acoustic amp and it will blow your mind!!!

Well guys, I just got off of the phone from ordering a fully loaded, Desert Gold JP7, still sealed in plastic and original box. Dan at Ernie Ball was able to locate one at Bass Central in Fern Park, Florida. I talked to Beaver, K.C., and Mike during various phone calls and all of them were extremely informative and very personable. Not to mention the insane deal they gave me.

It should arrive to my office next Tuesday or Wednesday, just in time for my birthday Wednesday. I guess I should say Happy Birthday to me. :D I can not wait! I'll make sure to post some provocative shots of it when I get it home... well, after I play it for a few hours. ;)

I'd like to thank Jodi for referring me to Dan, Dan for finding me a dealer with the configuration I wanted in stock, and to the guys at Bass Central for an incredible deal and wonderful shopping experience!

MAN that's awsome!!! Congrats on a solid purchase, I'm sure you won't regret it. Your wife might, because no Ball owner can go without a second, a third, forth or hell one guy has like 40 of them here.... :D

If I can find the thread I will link you to it, he showed them all to us one day, some of us cried

Well, it's here! Thank God it made it here in one piece. We have some pretty bad weather here at the moment and I was afraid it wasn't going to make it through its 5 day journey from Florida to my office. After I let it equilize to the temperature change (it's about 15 degrees outside at the moment), I tuned it up and gave her a quick play. Man the seventh string is going to take a little getting used to! The neck definitely feels wider than the JP6 but only by a small margin. Ernie Ball did a great job at retaining a similar feel to the 6 string neck. I'm sure it'll take me a few hours of playing to get used to it but damn does that extra low B make a difference! I already have ideas for new riffs pouring out of my head. I can't wait to take her home and plug it in. :D

Here she is after removing the bubble wrap and plastic:

Sorry for the horrible picture... I took it with my phone. I'll post some pictures taken with an actual camera tonight after I get home.

Ok, so I've been enjoying my JP7 so much that I haven't had the time to take any decent pictures. However, I have been recording some new ideas that have been inspired from having the additional string. In the midst of getting my little desktop recording studio set back up and at the same time getting used to playing a seven string guitar, I thought it would be a good oppotunity to lay down some riffs that I came up with utilizing the extra range.

Anyway, what you will here is my Ernie Ball Music Man JP7 plugged directly into my Mac using Logic Pro. The clean guitar tracks are straight off of the JP's piezo. All processing is from Logic Pro's built-in effects processor. The bass line was created using a simple midi controller and software instruments built into Logic Pro. The drums are from actual recordings made by Christian Donlon of Beta Monkey. He's records thousands of drum tracks, slices them up, and then sells discs full of loops and samples for recording use. This works much better for me than previous methods of using a drum machine with midi controller.

It's just a short track consisting of only a few measures and extremely mediocre playing so please don't be too harsh on me. :p Trust me, I have more complex stuff in the works. This is only for testing purposes:

Let me know what you guys think.

Sounds good, brother! I love the piezo!!!! :)

Yeah, I never thought I'd really care for the piezo but I can't get enough of it when playing. The pickups in this thing are unbelievable! If you listen to the rhythm guitar in that track I posted, when I palm mute the chords, that chunky sound just makes me grin ear to ear. And when I add the open strings to the chords (Petrucci-style) it just sounds like buttah! Damn I love this guitar! :D
