JP's piezo tone in Budokan sounds very much like a nylon guitar... Is that what you're looking for?

Foggy I think it depends on what amp you are using surely any tone is possible with the piezo as long you use the right amplification. The EBMM piezo is truly amazing piece of tone equipment.

Oh... Coz when I first heard that song, I thought JP was using a classical guitar of some sort...

I think my JP's factory setup piezo soudns a lot like nylon guitar when plugged into a regular guitar amp (not an acoustic amp)

Oh don't get me wrong! I agree with you. That's my favourite part of the DVD.
I just think it's mixed with the regular pickups a tad or has some other effects.
I merely asking about the true nylon sound. I'll have to listen to that again. :)

I think if you were to use the piezo in conjunction w/the D-tar Mama Bear or a similar unit you could approximate a nylon string. Through a regular amp/speaker cab it does sound more nylon-like than steel. Probably the lack of full range speakers that contributes to this.

To me, without processing, the piezo sounds alot like an older steel string Ovation/Takamine, before they started using on-board equalizers.

I like to blend it with the mags to enhance the high end a bit. Kind of like an on board brightness control.

I think with the right EQ setting on the guitar, the piezo can get pretty close to the sound of a classical guitar. When I was testing out an Egnater Mod 50 with my MD JP, I plugged straight into the amp with its Twin/Deluxe module. Frank Lamara, Bruce Egnater's partner, stepped out of the room just before I switched from the magnetics to the piezo, only to turn around and say that he wasn't sure it was the same guitar, cuz it sounded like a classical.

Hi All,

I've been comparing the piezo on my JP to a USA Hamer Duotone,an I****z that has the piezo edge trem, and finally to my Yairi Acoustic plugged into my acoustic amp. I use the Yairi as the reference.

To my ears, the JP has the most authentic amplified acoustic tone. The I****z edge trem is not bad, but has more of the piezo quack one usually expects.

I imagine that if the JP piezo output were processed, it could be manipulated rather nicely b/c it starts out sounding so good.

Best,
Marc

I was there. I thought it sounded like nylon as well. This was in a quiet amp room in the back of the Egnater shop. We were the only ones testing/playing anything. I was amazed.

this may be a dumb question, but don't they make an axis with a piezo bridge? and if so, has anyone here tried it? Just curious if it sounds as nice as the JP?
