I hope I'm not driving you all crazy with all my questions today, but I have one more. I just got done converting my JP6 to use 9s - truss rod, trem springs and some minor saddle and bridge height adjustments. It plays just the way I want it now. However, I have a question. I searched the current forums, and haven't found a good answer.

I tried to level the bridge by loosening the claw with 3 springs attached, and I just couldn't find the sweet spot. In order to get it to level out, I would have had to back the claw so far out that the springs were nearly compressed - to the point where there was VERY little travel to pull the trem arm up (sharp) because the block would hit the compressed springs.

I finally resorted to removing the center spring, and tighting the claw in pretty far. The bridge is now perfectly level when in tune, and the trem feels fine.

So my question is, is there any danger of damage when running with only 2 trem springs? If it plays and feels the way I want, is it safe to leave this way, or should I take it apart and figure out how to make 3 springs work?

Thanks,
MikeVt
