hey, it's me again. I've got another question about pickups. I was wondering what the differences are between the peavey wolfgang pickups and the Axis pickups.

I might pick one up and give it a shot but just wondering if anyone has tried them. I assume they would be similar. They would be the same size, right?

I just have reservations to buying new pickups after I purchase my last one and it wouldn't fit in the axis....

thanks guys

let me ask. how did the last pickups you bought not fit the axis? were they too big?

the axis pickups are direct mounted, so you'll have to direct mount whatever pickups you buy for it. The screw holes are different sizes, but as long as you screw it in the body, it should work, right?

Well, here's the thing. I didn't do it myself because I was afraid I would screw it up so I took it to a "good" repair shop in town. I bought the Dimarzio evolution pickup and was told that it sat up too high. He said that it literally touched the strings when he put it in. I'd never heard anything like this before, but then again I'd never changed a pickup either. So I sent it back.

That seems a little odd to me. He must not have been trying to direct mount it, but I'm just guessing. It should work. I've put Axis pickups in non axis guitars and regular dimarzios in Axis guitars. The only question for me was getting around the different hole sizes for the screws.

sounds like I just need to read up a little bit on it and try to do it myself then, or take it somewhere else. I've got the evolution pickups in another guitar and love em-it would have been nice to have them in my axis too.

Geno,

The Wolfgang EVH pick is a little bit darker with less individual string clarity than the Axis pup. Also a great choice along with the Dimarzio's.

However, it will not fit the Axis pup pocket without first doing some fairly simply mod's. But yes, it will fit perfectly when done.

What are they you ask?? You'll know that when you get it.

Remember, on direct mopunted pups you can increase pup height with a washer (I customize "wood" washers), or metal. You can enlarge pup frame holes with a common drill, you can drill out (enlarge) pup pocket screw holes with same, you can "plug" (decrease size) pup pocket screw hole with wood.

Try and get the Axis pup if you can - but if not, you can do it!!!:)

Wolfang pickups are hotter and more responsive to volume pot adjustments. They are beefier but the the tone of the EVH/Axis pickups is sweeter and more PAF-like. Surprisingly, they are quite different from each other although clearly in the same category of pickup.

If I had my choice between the two I would take the DiMarzios in the EVH/Axis. But Wolf pickups are quite rockin' .
