Do any of you guys on the other side of the pond have any advice or contacts for shipping guitars from the US to UK? I've got my eyes on a Y2D and have looked into import duties etc but want to know who is the best (not neccesarily the cheapest) shipper from the US. Any advice appreciated. :)

Use the UPS or FedEX, don't use USPS.
But I don't think you can buy directly from any US dealer.

Oh, I don't know that.
Last time I shiped via USPS, they didn't use FedEx back then. So I've got a little problem with them.

Its who and how they pack it. Guitar shipping is serious business and I take it serious.
You must have it in a hard case, and the case filled with packing (no movement at all)
outer box must be durable and well taped. with no chance of it the guitar case coming out the end during the heavy handed process of moving cargo. Insurance is a must. or take it to a FEDEx store and give them the green light to pack, ship, track the package. Well worth the cost. I just saw my buddy go thru hell with his dream guitar that came to his house in shambles.

Don't ship with USPS - they only insure up to $500! FedEx does not insure - you'd have to go with a third party insurance company to get it covered. UPS is the only other option - unless you come over yourself and take it back with you!

I shipped about 60 guitars from USA to Austria and all of 'em w/USPS priority.
Not even one Problem.
Easy customs and VAT handling.
Easy to track.
Took 5 to 10 days to my house (customs including)
the AL i got from a forumitie was USD 116,-
USPS insures the value you give.
everything online.

I was wondering if the one year warranty is also valid when you buy your Ball in another European country than the one you live in.

I bought my Luke in England and my SUB in Germany. I'm through the one year warranty time, so it really doesn't matter anymore, but in case there was something wrong with my balls :)o) , would i have to send it to Germany or England for repair or could i take it to a store in Holland?

Just curious..

The guy in Texas is taking the guitar down to UPS to have it all boxed up etc and I'm taking extra insurance. It's a risk but at £650 it's too good to throw away. I paid $1799 for my EVH in Xmas 2005 and that came to about £850 I think. There's no way I could find one so cheap in the UK so the risk is worth taking (he said before there were any problems! :) )

Colin, I wouldn't worry too much about the shipping, I've used UPS, DHL, Fedex and USPS to have guitars and pedals shipped. The only problem that I ever had, was with Parcelfarce.

You're not going to get a silo like that (if it's the one I'm thinking of) unless you buy it used from someone in the US. There's only one Silo trem and piezo in the uk that I know of (and it's not for sale)
