I agree. I'd like to see more of this guitar. I'd also like to see John do one of those videos like he did with the JPX. There's a 99.99% chance I'll be getting a 7-string JP 12. The other .01% possibility is a JPXI.

If John did a video promo on this guitar it would make all of us who are not sure between the 11 or 12 choose the 12. I'll bet anything on that.

Just curious, why do you say that? I'm one of those on the fence between the two and I'd love to hear your thoughts - besides the killer finish on the 12.

I think they did the JP 12 cause Petrucci wanted to have the option to go back to basswood with the mahogany tone block.
Since he's been using alder bodied guitars pretty exclusively since the BFR's.
Who knows really though. Maybe he wants a tone closer to the standard models, with the feel of a BFR?

I'm very interested to hear and feel the difference between the JPXI and JP 12. The basswood model should be lighter (it's also softer wood, I think) too. I know it's a lot to ask for any music store near here to have both models  I have a basswood Ibanez RG and an alder strat so I can't make any sorta reasonable comparison. The guitars are just too dissimilar not including the wood difference.

As far as the paint job goes, I think Barolo is by far my favorite, but since neither comes in that color, it's irrelevant lol.

I have an idea of what the 12 will sound like. Other than the finish, I think people after the "airy overtones" of basswood would gravitate towards the 12 while people who want a more traditional sound will get the 11. The strongest example of the basswood airiness that I can think of is in this video.

Joe Satriani - Ten Words (Live 2006) - YouTube

All the basswood guitars that I owned have that characteristic sound. Since the 12 is going to have the mahogany tone block, I'm guessing it'll offer a nice flavoring. Some of my chambered guitars also have that characteristic.

I am not a JP model player but I am all about knowing why certain wood combination's get chosen. The JPXII now has a basswood body instead of alder which is a step back towards his older days but now has the tone block, maple top ect which is a part of his later days. I find it interesting that he kept the mahogany neck. I wondering it he even tried the raw maple neck again? For that matter he could have gone with a roasted neck or an all RW neck. EB I am will make him anything he wants to try so I wonder how much trying he did.

I wish we could get these anniversary guitars with the clear finishes :( glittery guitars aren't really my preference but I love all the appointments on the last 2 models
