Hi All,
Just taken delivery of a Stingray 4 which I managed to win on uk e-bay.
Excitedly opened the package, rushed upstairs to plug in. Nothing!!
Changed the battery, a few crackles. Eventually got it playing but very disappointed, no depth or drive or real volume.

Its not the amp or lead at fault as my other bass plays beautifully (it's not Musicman).
So:
When you plug the lead in should there be a definite 'click' showing it is engaged like my other bass. The jack simply slides in. Its not loose but no definite engagement if you know what I mean.
Should I remove the control plate and give everything a squirt with switch cleaner? When it is playing the treble crackles when you touch it.

Lastly am I correct in assuming serial E22701 will be around 2001?
Thanks in anticipation.

id check if there is proper contact between the battery and the battery poles. if they dont touch = no power to the preamp. you can pry on them carefully with a screwdriver so they will make better contact..

that said, internet diagnostics are not an exact science.. so perhaps give ernieball customer service a call. to get information straight from the source is probably better ;)

Could be a bad preamp. I bought a used SUB that barely put out sound (no depth, drive, or real volume as you described) and the preamp was shot. These guys sent me one for a very fair price once I returned the bad one.:)

Lol maybe is one of those out of date preamps that only last 10 years dayuuum!

JOKE!

If you are in UK call Strings & Things they are the only authorized people in UK to deal with EBMM products....

Their number? I don't have it on this ship sorry... but you can google Strings and Things, Brighton

Make sure you have the 1/4 inch plug in all the way. The jack is different than other basses. It has happened to me before.

I've tried three different leads. All the same . But thanks. Would it still play and allow volume control if the pre amp had shot it? There are no crackles now after using the electrical spray cleaner but only the volume control works as I think it should. Bass treble and tone have no effect.

Is this a 2 band or 3 band EQ preamp? If a 2 band EQ, then most probably there's no power on the preamp, i.e. it's working in "passive" mode. Check the cables to the battery compartment. I managed to rip them out when trying to change a battery...

Hi,
It is a 3 band EQ. I thought that Oli but there is definitely some power because if I take the battery out completely then there is very little volume, although some. Battery back in = reasonable volume but no tone, treble or bass control.

I've seen a couple of the posts you made regarding you just missing one sausagefingers. It isn't that one as I was watching that also.
This one is a honeyburst 4 string that was in an e-bay shop called x-s...something!! They deal in bankrupt stock and customer returns.
The guitar is beautiful, it does have two small dings on it on the underside of the lower horn where it has obviously fallen over or been dropped. You cannot see them in normal playing position. Other than that it looks new

If only I could sort these electrics.!!
