I just sold my B2R (350w) Saturday because it didn't have the juice of my GK 700RB (modded to 540w), but tonally, I loved it through my SVT-15EN cab.

The extra 100 watts are definitely needed for most bar gigs.

Check out the Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II bass head. For about $50 more retail, you'll get a bass head that is a lot more power efficient than the Ampeg.

The B2R/B2RE and the SVT350H/450H which are essentially all the same amp sound really good but are a little soft in the power section IMO.Great tone(more to my liking than the SVT Classic) but runs out of juice very quickly.I'd get a GK over any of these..........

Think they both hit it right on the head... Had one for 28 days (GC's return policy - got to love it) and I got killed at all of our bar gigs - but it has nice Ampeg tone - would make an awsome "practice at home" amp.

No problem! Make a purchase yet?

No. I had a chance to get an Ampeg B2-RE at a fair (but not great) price, but after hearing the comments, I decided to pass on it.

Thanks,

Give the GK 700RB-II or 1001RB-II a shot...you won't regret it!

IMHO...of course.
