i´m playing my Y2D now for about 3 years and i love this guitar.
but every time i play one of my JPs and change to the Y2D, i´m missing some low-end on the bridge position.
don´t get me wrong, the sound with the original PUPs isn´t bad at all, it´s a very "in your face" sound, but i´m missing the low-end a bit.
so did anyone change ever swap the PUP?
do you guys have any suggestion, which Dimarzio (i´m not a SD-fan) PUP would bring me more low-end without loosing this "in your face" character?
could it be the new crunchlab? i´m impressed how the new CL sound in the JP6 - would the CL work with the Y2D as well?
my other though was a ToneZone, but hope you guys can give me a new idea or help me with my decision.

Alnico pups have a better bottom than Ceramics IMO. You could try an Air Zone, which I believe is Alnico V

I have an Air Zone and Air Norton with 500k ohm pots in my standard Morse. Thick, sweet, and juicy. I love the sound, but I'm not into metal/heavy tones.

I tried a set of Axis p'ups in a Morse for a while. Hotter, but didn't get the low end. (The body wood and TOM bridge are big contributors.) But with a Floyd you might have better luck.

OK-
So you have a few JPs that you like the sound of and can use whenever you want or need that tone.
Might I ask why you would want to change pickups in a guitar that you state you like the sound of to make it sound more like a different guitar you already own more than one of?
Maybe you could embrace the diversity of the many fine EBMM guitars you are fortunate enough to own which are different animals.
I'm always looking for my next guitar to add to the tones I have available in my arsenal. I like them to be different. Just another opinion...

Well, just my 2 cents. Why don't You just try Steve's Special - it should get You right where you want it, since it's what has been in the Petrucci prior to the D-Sonic.

It will be wonderfully round, dark and transparent, but softer and not so "in Your face" like the D-Sonic is to my ears.

P.S. God, I love the old PETs for that sound

Hey, u talkin to me? NY
I always loved the Evolutions but, personally I would keep the stock pup and play your JP's and EVH's when you want that heavier sound. Good luck Joe!

All the best,
Slav

I'd consider putting a D-sonic to the bridge position. Try the Pick up finder function on the Dimarzio website, it can be helpful.

My JP6 has that modified Steve's Special and it is great.

thanks for your input!
i will do some testdrives the next weeks. i have an evo, the original steve´s special from the JP and a wolfgang pup here. so i´ll swap them and hear what fit best for me.
maybe i´ll do what slav123 said, just let the stock pup in.
