Hey ways,

I'm thinking about getting a Whammy pedal. Any present/past users?

Any comments on tone-sucking, bypass, tracking or whatever you feel are pretty welcome! :D

I had a newer one that I used occasionally. It's crapped out now but when it worked it was fun. I haven't got around to fixing it or replacing it yet though....

I have one and it isn't noisy (the newer one with the midi) and it doesn't suck tone, it's built like a tank...actually I may be selling it, since I can do most of what I used the Whammy for on my Tonelab SE.

I don't own the Whammy pedal, but I own a Digitech RP-2000 and it can do 'whammy' with its pedal.

Here then, are my opinions:

I think it's a pretty limited-use effect. It's tough to control the pitch with precision.. not impossible, but tough. It's too severe an effect to be considered a 'replacement' for a tremolo bar. It is great for wicked pitch shifting all over the map, but for what I play, I don't find myself needing it.

:D I knew this was gonna happen. It's the same all over Internet! :D

mines super noisy when i kick it in, but it doesnt suck tone.

ill agree with everyone else here, that its mainly a very specific kind of effect. i dont like the harmonies in it at all, so im looking to pick up an IPS-33b or DHP-55 to replace the whammy and harmonizer (cause i like keyspecific harmonies *and its got delay and chorus to boot*).

tracked pretty bad on anything more then single notes, but it has its uses. for instance, i think Acid Rain by Liquid Tension Experiment has some excellent use for the whammy...its not crazy distasteful flying octaves...its just awesome :D .

that, and radiohead.

Hey Raz, maybe we should talk about that
Sure, shoot me a PM, we can at least talk openly about it. If I can get my Tonelab...let me re-phrase that, if I can get me lazy arse out of the bowl of Halloween candies and LEARN how to do what I normally use the Whammy for, then I wouldn't need it anymore. I'm also thinking of selling my Ibanez WD7 Wah.

I had one of the newer ones, but took it back to GC because I kept picking up an AM radio station with it. :D I loved the effect, but not the radio. ;)

i forgot one last thing: major reason its off my board is that it introduced a major noticable delay into the signal...it just completely threw me off
