Hi all!

I'm looking around to buy a small practice amp for my livingroom... I've been offered a Matchless Lightning 15watt combo, but I haven't played it yet...

Do any of you guys have some experience with Matchless amps?? Any input or other suggestions would be welcome!! I mainly play blues and funk.

Thanks!

I played one a while back. Don't know what model etc, but it was a really nice amp.

I mostly play funk for a living (besides Jazz/ fusion & Latin music)... and I have found Matchless amps to be much too Mid-range heavy for clean chordal & solo work...

However, they also break-up very early, and a lot of folk love this for expressing their blues chops,,,

If your looking at Matchless before you buy, try the Badcat amps as well.

badcat make great amps, but pricey as hell!!! my local dealer is always making me play them when i go in, they sound great, truly, but i dont think i'd ever spend over $5000AUS for an amp. one of the heads was close to $8000, holy moly!

I have read reviews on Matchless and they always have good things to say about them. How much are you looking to spend? One great amp that is perfect for the home and late night playing is the Carr Mercury. Another great amp is the DR. Z line. His amps are of high quality and are less than these other boutique amps. Good luck.

Depends upon price and your ability to afford it. Matchless has one of the great blues tones - both clean and dirty.

Just like guitars, everyone has it's own personality and you never have enough of either...

..personality or equipment :D

DR. Z amps are wonderful for any genre of music... for my personal tastes, much preferred over a mid-range heavy Matchless...

We must jam together sometime. Will you be at the Texas bash?

Yo, Rob, that's not me playing. :) But thanks for the compliment for my choice of amps. There's several sound clips on their user forum. Thing is, I love the sounds of these amps, but I think I'd get tired of the voicing of the amp after awhile. Which may be why John Mayer also has a mm.. not sure.. Deluxe Reverb, I think, alongside his Two Rock, to A/B with on stage.
