I know he's using an ENGL Special Edition head now (of which I actually have one coming next week myself but, I digress). I think he's also using another ENGL amp as well don't know which though. Anyways... anybody know what amp(s) he used for each CD release from High Tension Wires onwards? Just curious mind you, I'm not trying to cop his tone. I heard he played 5150's for a time as well.

When Tommy checks in he should be able to help you out. He's tech'd for Steve in the past and should know more than anyone.

I even believe that (having in mind only his DP days) he used the 5150 for most of the shows.

Since we're discussing it, does anybody know this: on the Bananas tour, I was at a gig and he was having 6 Marshall 4x12 cabs. Unfortunately, I couldn't see the heads. My question is: What heads was he using and for how long? (that was on demeber 6th, 2003)

When I saw him in April at the SMB / Dregs show he had an older Marshall head and a 5150, but I believe Tommy said he only used the Marshall, the 5150 was backup. But like I said, wait for Tommy to check in and he'll give you the skinny.

For his solo stuff and Dregs stuff he usually uses the combination of a Marshall Jubilee head and the Peavey 5150. I think that is also what he used for Deep Purple, I guess until the switch for the ENGL. I think he gets a better tone with Deep Purple with the ENGL amps, and cuts through better maybe? But I think his sound for solo stuff is still the mix of the Marshall and 5150, because that's what I saw him use just last year around May I think, in NYC.
