I have this marshall combo, jtm30, its mid 90s has clean and boost channels an effects loop in front and sounds pretty cool, very crunchy and marshall, and the clean is very fender bassman, i wonder if any others like this amp or have used it, since it is one of the rarer marshalls out there, it has 2 6l6 and 3 12ax7, Ive had this amp for years but it never comes up on the forums, has any one ever tried one, ps they also made a 60 watt 212 and 1 15, along with a 30 watt 2 10. Also 60 watt head; I really like this amps raw raunch and think it has been overlooked , and the clean takes pedals like a fender twin, but the drive channel is ballsy, I think its the last really crunchy marshall they made. Im just curious of your thoughts.heres a pic.

I had the 60 Watt version around the time it was made. Sounded much like you describe it from what I remember.

Sadly I don't have any pictures or evidence of it in my possession!

I seem to recall that Marshall had terrible reliability problems with this model, over heating I seem to remember. They discontinued it and reworked the parts into the JCM600 series.

I have the 2x10. Great little amp. It does get hot!!!!!

I use it as my home amp so I don't have to move my MK V from church. With my Reflex I can get a ton of tones from it. The clean channel is as good as anything I can get out of the Mesa. Crunch is pretty good but can not stand up to anything the 5 can do.

well guys, I had two of these little demons, just as in the picture, not rare as such in UK but people who have them tend to hold on to them.

These are a great way to get into valve amps at a sensible price and with great quality, I am sure they are no longer made.

The 60watt JTM 60 appears very similar but believe me it falls well short of the 30, and if you can get your hands on the matching 1x12 extension cabinet the sound warms up even more.

I never paid more than £250 for one and for that expect first rate condition.

oh and they are serviceable none of you black box technology here.

If you are looking to buy, don't look back, it will be gone !!

Mine( the one pictured above) is in the shop now, getting a new transformer, and power tubes, basicly an overhaul, i paid $399.00 for this amp used in 2002 and loved it ever since, extremely crunchy and biting drive, super smooth clean too, a real gem, I have looked for the matching cab for 10 years to no avail, but one might pop up.

I think clearly that in the Uk these amps and their matching extension cabs are very much more prominent. I did eventually sell both of mine, and I cant say I regret it as I get very similar performance from a Mesa mini Rectifier but at 4 times the price. I have not looked today but there are often on ebay UK amps and cabs so it may be possible to get someone to send over for you.

Keep rocking
