Anybody here use acoustic amps with their piezo? What do you use? How do you like it? Any recommendations?

I used a Marshall AS50R/Krank combination when I played in Cats. I have a matching JP6, 7 and ran them stereo. I ran the mags through my pedals and Krank, the piezo thru the Marshall. The AS50R has a very nice stereo chorus and reverb (I do not own a chorus or reverb pedal) so whenever I needed those sounds, I just switched my piezo on.

I'll be honest with you - as far as dynamic expression is concerned I think that the piezo sounded better through my Krank, and through my Marshall 8080 Valvestate. The chorus trick was awesome but just by itself it seemed to compress too much. It didn't have the depth that it has through the other amps.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi Bierschinken
The piezo will play through a normal amp and will sound ok, but you will not get any where near it's full capability, The same can be said when played through an amp emulator like a Pod XT.

However when played through an acoustic amp the difference is very noticeable and much improved.

A few guys on the forum play theirs through the PA, bur personally I prefer the sound through the AER acoustic amp.

Through an amp modeler might sound decent, as long as you don't set it to emulate a tube amp. The PodXT even has a preset for piezo acoustics, sounds ok through it.

I go through an EB splitter right into the PA. Sounds great. I've gone through a POD before, but I got better tone plugging into a phone book. :)

I play mine through my guitar amp and it sounds pretty good, but I do have my amp really clean though. Try different things and see what works out for you.

Yup that was the setting that I was thinking about - it does sound ok but nowhere near as good as through an acoustic amp like the AER.

A couple of years ago I scoffed at the idea of an acoustic amp thinking that they were a rip off. Well I have changed my tune and went out and bought one.

I guess it all depends how you have configured the POD.
I put it through the return loop on my Marshall and it sounds great, yet through a Fender Combo and it sucked. Horses for courses I guess, but with the right amp setup they are a bit better than a phone book ;)

When I get my JP 6, I will be running it through a Yorkville 100 watt multi purpose. I find that the amp sounds great for vocals, keyboards, and acoustics.

You should be good to go straight into the PA. I've never needed a pre-amp on the rare times when I've used a mixer and PA. It might depend on the PA you're using though (maybe there are some odd ones?)
