The stock pups on the SUB`s are decent, but i think to really unlock this guitars potential i just picked up a set of DiMarzio`s to put in. Tone Zone for the bridge and Air Norton for the neck! This should make the guitar an absolute tone monster!!! Gonna be a week or so till i get them installed but,has anyone changed their SUB`s pups? And if so,what did you put in there? :)

I've not, I quite like the Sub's pickups. I've toyed with the changing of them though.. EMGs maybe..... perhaps a norton in the neck and the evo in the bridge,... but I do that with all my guitars.

sub pup subbed?

haven't changed out any of mine yet my evaluation is that the neck pup on my sub is as good as an air nortion at least it sounds very comparable to me the bridge pup is the one that I have considered changing but it is very good too IMO
maybe just a little weak in the output level the stock pups are very versatile good for many different types of music to me the neck pup is really nice for jazz and blues the bridge pup seems very well suited to run through effects the combo is a very nice full clean sound by itself

I had an air norton and a tone zone in my Silo I loved the air norton but didn't like the tone zone at all it seemed muted and lifeless to me... kind of flat

I do have a set of virtual Pafs that I have thought about trying in a sub and I am thinking of using a tone pull pot to engage just the outer single's ala PRS I'll bet that is gonna sound fantastic but the pups are white would rather have a different color guard to use with them but maybe I'll try them on the black guard..

I actually really like the stock pups on my SUB,
I hear about people actually replacing them for Dimarzio mostly...

There's no point in my opinion to replace them. I think that if you don't like it then maybe the guitar is not for you, dunno... the only reason I might consider replacement is for live situations where I want stronger output and more stable tone that won't bleed or get lost in the effects chain...

I've experienced lots of Dimarzio pickups like : Air Norton, Steve's Special, Super3, Evolutions, Fred, Air Classic... Norton... these were the major ones...

Most of their high output pickups sound similar to me, with different EQ curve here and there, same color, same bark and midrange and lack of presence and lots of gain and compressed alike sound...

To me the SUB is more vintage like guitar style than more modern stuff like PRS, or most of the shredding guitars like Ibanez, Jackson, ESP etc...

With that being said, Dimarzio to my opinion are modern approach pickups, no matter which model you use, but I never accomplished classic sounds out of them, they always feel to me like they were born to Rock and Shred... and to me this is definitely not a good match to such a classic sounding guitar like the SUB.

I really don't think the neck pickup on the SUB has any similarity to Air Norton in any way, the Air Norton doesn't have the presence, the crispy highs, or natural freedom in sound like the Stock neck pickup has... The Air Norton to me is way too processed... and it's way too dark to my opinion for open sounding guitar like my SUB.

That's my grudge of the day... :)
