i'm thinking hard about this one. I would really love a JP with an ebony fretboard, but I have a house I'm trying to save for. Do I sell me rosewood neck for this? This may be just as rare. hmmmmm. I need help. (and not just because I'm lefty.)

LOL yea these new developments make things hard, the ebony fretboard is what does it for me, without that option I would pass which is why I am leaning towards the AL.

There all pretty rare but I would keep the rosewood, if anything sell the MD, you can get one later that finish is not going anywhere IMO plus the DD2 is a MD in a different style, really thought the DD2 might have a longer ordering window or you can gamble that Pete and Nick are going to order some store stock.

that's not a bad idea either Keith, but my MD is one of the first lefties made and my dream guitar...crap, what to do.

maybe I can get 2500 knuckleheads to each send me one dollar! :D

lefty I know it's not exactly the same as selling a guitar but I sold my collection of Japanese 1st pressing CD's including some really rare ones that were important to me, and I also sold one of the first 500 Dual Rectifiers ever made to help fund my 7 string and what later turned out to be my rosewood JP6. My wife is paying for the Dargie as I've mentioned.

Here's my view on it. Sell the rosewood and get the BFR JP6 Dargie. The rosewood is great, and yeah it's rare, but you don't have a BFR yet. It's such a different animal from the JP6.

You'll still have a standard even if you sell the rosewood, and again while the rosewood is great, and sonically a bit warmer sounding than the maple neck, it's still essentially the same instrument otherwise.

The BFR will give you a completely different set of tones to add to your arsenal, while allowing you to still own a rare instrument. Also I have to say as someone who has been playing unfinished necks for the last 20 years, the BFR neck is amazing.

I think of my material things in the way baseball teams look at prospects. Some of them you don't trade regardless of what you are getting in return, others you happily trade if you can get anything at all, and some you really want to hold on to but when the right deal presents itself you accept that you have to give up something great to get something great.

This will sting a bit, no doubt about it, and you'll have 3-4 months where you continue to second guess your decision and miss the rosewood. But when you open that case for the fist time and see your Dargie BFR, and then play it for the first time I think you'll know you made the right call.

Have you played a JP BFR yet?

That's a tough call. If I wasn't stable where I am, I probably wouldn't be buying another axe this year.

The ebony is really just an added bonus for me. The color and the BFR package are what makes it for me.

Don't sell the rosewood neck! They are too nice to get rid of.

Ordered mine this morning. I ended up going through GC because I wanted to get a new practice amp for the house because with the baby on the way I wanted something that would sound half decent without having to have the volume turned up. So I got a pretty sick deal by packaging the two together.

I ended up with a BFR JP 6 Dargie and a Line 6 Valve 212 made in collaboration with Bogner. AJ said they were hoping to have it finished in 2-3 months instead of 3-4, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Awesome deal! You'll love the Spider Valve. I have the 1x12 version and it smokes. It's really easy to record with, too. I usually use the balanced line out on the back and a large condenser about 3 feet back from the speaker. It's decidedly better at low volumes, though.

I was going to get the 1X12 but the 2x12 fits perfectly into the bottom shelf of my bookshelf's. I have two Oak bookshelf's that are about 6 1/2 feet high and the Spider fits into the bottom of one after adjusting the shelf height as if it were designed to house it, so it's not taking up any floor space.

I also bought new cables and DiMarzio strap locks.

So BK, I guess this means we'll be among the first to receive our DD II's. I wonder with the ordering window being 3 times longer than for the Dargie I how many more will be ordered. Of course given the state of the economy it may even out. I wonder how many more Lefty JP BFR 6's will be ordered.

That's awesome to have an amp fit perfectly :D

Yeah. I'm hoping to see mine by my birthday (Sept), but I'm not holding my breath. I still don't have my 25th and Pete had it on order already when I snagged it from the on order section of DuBaldo's site.

What I need to find is a good acoustic amp or a decent PA. I use the piezo a lot and have to plug it into my studio gear just to practice with it.

I'm also hoping for mine as a September birthday gift. I played the 25th upside down again at GC in Boston. There's just too many options on that guitar too make any sense of it upside down, but it sure seems like an amazing axe.

I'd love to pick up a cheap acoustic amp as well. The Petrucci's are my first foray into the Piezo realm and I love them. Unfortunately I think I'm done for now and I pretty much used any funds I had hoped to put towards an AxeFx.

I just got off the phone with my wife and tried to bring up ways I could purchase more gear, but I swear she cut me off before I finished the first syllable and said "don't even say it if you want to live".

Oh well, 3 Petrucci's and a new amp all in a 6 month period make for a pretty good year when you've been laid off, and are expecting a child. Plus she bought me the front row center tickets to the Boston Progressive Nation show. :D

Oh I will. It's been 10 years now, married for 3. What's really cool about the DT tickets is, DT is her favorite band but she can't go because she's due in August and obviously won't be going to any concerts while pregnant, but she still bought two for me. My friend who is supposed to be going with me may be being relocated to either NY or SF so I may be giving away a free ticket to someone on these boards. Of course that person would be stuck next to a lefty the entire show.

She's trying to get the day off so she can go to the Petrucci meet and greet at DuBaldo's. That would be great because then I wouldn't need a ride. Plus it would be kind of funny if she could get a picture with JP so years later we could tell our daughter "see, you met John Petrucci...sort of". :)
