Sounds weird, and I usually can't go more than 48 hours w/o playing...but it sure is nice to pick up a guitar after not playing it for 3 days.

Feels very fresh after usually playing at least a little everyday.

Anyone else find this to be true with them?

I sold all my gear at one point, and didn't play for 7 years. I got fed up and decided to work on a 'real' job. Haha... I should've stayed playing guitar, the pay sucks but it's better than working in a cube. But as for as inspired by not playing, I'll play on the weekends, and then not too much during the week, and if I do play during the week it's usually unplugged. I get so many ideas and then I am certainly inspired to plug in and try em out. By the time Saturday rolls around I can't wait to hear what it'll sound like amplified.

On purpose, or did you just forget to go into your music room for 15 years, "What the hell are all these guitars doing here??? oh yeah, l play guitar"

Sorry man, l'm tired, it's late.

Last year l actually went away on holidays for like 14 days, it absoluetly killed me, being away from playing guitar, but it was refreshing to step away from it for a while.

Scott.

My story is a sad one, I moved to the big city with hopes and dreams like any other guitar player...in fact I was up at 5:00 AM practising on a daily basis...but certain family issues caused me to move back home. Then my stuff got stolen, and it was never the same since. Got married, had kids...then one day I said screw this I'm buying a guitar...the rest is history...I often think of what my level of playing would be if I kept at it for those 15 years...oh well!

I find myself playing alot more unplugged then plugged...while watching TV I'll play as much as several hours...not really watching, more playing...I like playing unplugged

I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old.

I practice with my band once per week, and I'm lucky if I get to pick up the guitar at all in between. If I do, it's late at night for just a 1/2 hour or so..

However, I *think* about playing a lot. While that may seem funny, I think it actually has helped. You know, I'll think about theory and the fretboard, etc. I think things are sinking in now that I never bothered to commit to memory before.

When I do sit down to play, I feel like I'm accomplishing more in terms of technique.

I´ve played guitar a little over 10 years now, and the longest stop I´ve had was little over a month. That was last fall when my wrist became inflamed (or how do say that?). It was horrible, because of the facts that I couldn´t play and that it was very sore.

But on the other hand, it was a very refreshing stop, I thought about my playing very much at the time (theory wise).

I frequently don't play for a couple of days and I always relish picking up a guitar again. On a slightly different note, why is it that if I have 10 mins before going to work and pick a guitar up, I play like a demon and could happily play for hours, but as soon as I have a couple of hours free, I play like crap. Any ideas?

Sometimes I'm inspired when other people don't play :D

But seriously, I have been playing for 40 years, and I think if I had to stop for more than a couple of days, I'd go nuts

It Is Addictive!!!

I find that if I cannot practice, it is a pain that I cannot describe. Yet, when I pick it up, it is a joy that I cannot describe.....only the rest of you know that joy. We are all linked to the joys of playing.....

life sucks and my guitars/basses keep me sane. some nights ill get home from work and i wont be able to sleep unless i play.

with that said that are times that i dont play for a day or two. trying to write is super stressfull to me. its just rediculous how much pressure i put on myself sometimes. so when that happens i stay away for a lil bit but never longer than a day or 2
