I find that if I put it down for a few days....I will listen more intently to the music I have beit whatever style...and it usually changes my playing a bit when I pick up again.

I sold all my gear at one point, and didn't play for 7 years. I got fed up and decided to work on a 'real' job.

This is me, but it was 5 years instead of 7.

Doesn't matter...that time off killed me in the regard of:

1. Not playing.

2. My forward progress.

Play, people...play a lot. :)

I just let the guitar sit for about 3 weeks, only picking it up once a week or so for 15-20 minutes. Last night I plugged in at 6:30, and the next thing I knew it was 9:00! I was having a blast, and playing some material I hadn't played in about a year and a half. Now I just wish my neighbors would go on vacation so I can really let the SLO rip without complaints....

I seem to do better if I put it down for 3 days - or better yet, play my Stick for a week then switch back to guitar.

it re-boots my brain sometimes and I approach problems from the previous week differently and seem to play better.

Hell ya, I took 15 years off.

So did I man! I could kill myself for doing that. Now, I feel so bad if I can't at least pic up one of my guitars and play it while I sit on the couch and watch TV with the wife. But for the most part I play through my Mark IV or my Tonelab everyday even if it's for 20 minutes.
