i have an incredible weakness for exotic sounds and the like (my favorite scale by far is the Harmonic Minor)

and lately i've been dying to make my guitar sound very similar to a sitar, without actually having to go and buy a sitar

does anyone know of any maybe sitar stomboxes that are any good? or some sort of effects...hell, anything that can help me out?

I was listening to the song "Psycho" by System of a Down the other day, for kicks, and i remembered how much i like the sitar effects he gets, and then in the song "Home" by Dream Theater, that begining is awesome even though its (to my knowledge) Jordan with his synth on sitar

Danelectro made a sitar emulator pedal a while back. I think they may still do. You can get a used one for $60-80 on ebay. Supposedly they produce quite realistic sitar sounds.

I've heard about that one, the Sitar Swami.......unfortunatly, I've heard quite the contrary on sitar sounds, so unless i can try one out at a local place or whatnot, i don't think that i'm gonna buy one

digitech also makes a pedal called "The Weapon" for Disturbed's guitar player, and it has a sitar effect on it, i might have to check that one out too

The sitar is a really cool instrument. I happen to like the sound of them myself. I haven't heard the "Weapon" pedal yet. Suppose to emulate some of Dan Donegan's guitar tones...including the sitar in the song "Stupify". I'll have to check that one out.

If you really like exotic tones, try the 8 Tone Spanish Scale.....can be fun to play with.

Sitar on "Home".

The Sitar sound on Home is done on the keyboard, and not the Guitar. If you listen to the commentary audio on the SFAM DVD, Jordan states that everybody thinks it's the guitar, but he does it on his synth. BTW, I have a real sitar in my music room. I've never played it,or really attempted to.It has a hole in the back, but that's it. They sound great, but are a PITA to play. Somebody made a stomp box a while back that was supposed to simulate a sitar, just can't remember the name right now.You might do a search for one of those.
