Hi,

I thought that this would be the year to get the guitar I've always wanted.....a Sil Special. I had one before and wish I never let it go. I've been doing ALOT of work around the house, and the wife is letting me get a guitar. My budget is only $400, so I'm looking to get a used Sub.

Anybody know of any for sale?

thanks,
Al

You might ask one of our forum members, Raz, if he's still interested in selling any of his SUB guitars.

Yep, I'd talk to Raz too. He has a Sub that he converted to me more of a Sil Spec - SSH config. Haven't heard from him lately but he was looking to sell it.

I remember the mod he did to his. I'll shoot him a PM.

Will a Sub get me in the club, or do I need a Sil to qualify?

thanks, Al

I have a new old stock Sub 1 I recently picked up for $500 that I would be happy to sell you for $400 (plus shipping). Why? Because I've already got another one on order (white). Love 'em! I was going to use my graphite HH w/ tremolo (see sig) to continue experimenting with various pickup combinations but would have no hesitation offering it to you (stock humbuckers of course). I'm a longtime site visitor (former Luke and EVH owner) who only recently joined but I can send you my eBay user ID (longtime member, great feedback) with paypal confirmation. I'm retired military who now works in law enforcement, 44-years-old. If you want to do paypal, all I ask is that you chime in with their fee; otherwise a money order would be fine. I can send pics if you like. The guitar's condition report follows: two very tiny nicks on bottom side edge of headstock however you wouldn't notice either from one foot away. One on the right side edge, the other on the back of the headstock. Very very small...hard to see. I played the guitar initially for an hour before I even noticed 'em. During the pickup change, the pickguard developed a tiny, hairline 1/4-inch in length crack at the bottom just above the bridge humbucker. Since I plan on replacing it anyway (it's plastic, not real diamond plate) with a custom guard from Chandler, I figured I would just keep it on until the newbie arrived and switch 'em out. Aside from those minute issues, the guitar is cherry. The rosewood fingerboard was oiled and the fretwork on the guitar is superb. I love it....but as I mentioned, I've got yet another one on order so if I can help you get into a Sub 1 for $400 plus shipping, let me know...otherwise, it will be my Frankenstein Sub that will act as a proving ground for all the various humbuckers I have in store for it. FWIW, the new I ordered (same style as mine...HH w/ tremolo) cost $695 so I took it in the shorts on the newbie. Either way, I hope the new one is set up as nicely as this graphite model.

A Sub1 is Music Man just like its big brothers, so yeah.. it'll get you in the club. It certainly has some of those addictive EBMM qualities!

I have a metallic blue sub - stock 2 humbuckings - hardtail - black pickguard that I would let go for $400 or so (shipping included) if you are still looking. The other fellow's offer sounds good as well, so I'm not trying to step on anybody's toes, just throwing it out there. The guitar is in next to new condition (I've only had it a month or so) and plays and sounds very very nice. I'm considering letting it go because I'm looking for an A. Lee - I'm just too much of a single coil guy, at the end of the day...the SUB is a really cool guitar (I have trouble putting it down) and I hope you find one, if not this one. I can email pics if you'd like. I don't have any Ebay feedback, as I've never bought anything there or sold anything there. I did sell a very nice Martin 00028H through the Martin guitar forum, and would never screw anybody-but that is just my word (In other words, I'm an honest guy...but I understand that there are protections in place with places like Ebay that make them an attractive option for online shopping) If you're interested, I'd be happy to talk to you.

Best of luck
Steve

I have a few offers so far. I'll send you guys PMs so we don't get into details on the forum. I should be making a decision by the end of this weekend.

Since the wife's getting me the guitar, I want to make it fun for her and the kids. I have to coach a little league game today, but afterwards I want to take them to a few local shops to check out guitars.

Does the Sub have any contours on the body? At first I thought it was a Sil body shape, but I'm just noticing a lack of the contours in photos.

Well, it looks like my quest for an EBMM is put on hold again. Anyone with kids(espeacially when they have "issues") knows that things pop up that you don't plan on. There's a program that we're enrolling our son in and it costs alot of $$.

I want to thank everybody who got back to me with offers, they were all great deals. Actually, before this came up, I was showing my wife the difference between a Sub and a Sil, and was almost going to suprise Pete with and order for a Sil Sp[ec. I did end up getting something last night. It was a used satin Strat for $200. It is what it is.......not bad to play around on.

With all the stuff we do for our kids, they better put me in a really nice retirement home.....
