I was told 1987 for the 3EQ.

Be careful of the Ebay Bass. It has a strings-through-body bridge which were replaced with top-loads before EB aquired Music Man. EB may have used some old parts but I've never seen an early EB with that type of bridge. Ask for the neck to be removed to get dates. I'd be interested to see under the control plate. I note the seller makes a point of saying sold "as is".

the three band was my deal and it was designed by Mark Wentling with Tom Walkers supervision we
prototyped them in 86 and they hit production in 87 It was universally loved....except for the Germans who ordered exclusively two band for many years

The Germans still had air cooled sports cars until the late 90s...i think the 911 is pushing 45 years of production...maybe just slow to change...:D

exactly!!! Probably why I haven't moved on from Stingrays to anything else...i'm slow to change...i don't like gadgets in my car either, just keep it simple and fast like my bass...programed fuel injection was a nice addition in 1984 though:p

i personally love the sound of the 2 eq band when i am playing at home or without a drummer, but when i play live with a band i always use the 3 eq, because it sounds like the mids get really lost,, i just turn up the mids and that beautiful MM growl comes thru, cuts thru anything even those loud drummers
