CK's nice enough but has some pretty goofy ideas about gear and setups.

Also, there's a lot of talk here and there about things she claimed to play on....but which might have been played by someone else.

I don't want to argue that stuff here, but I will tell you a funny story about it.

Chuck Rainey is a friend of mine and I'm pretty sure that about forty times a day, he's asked about the Steely Dan sessions. I mean, he played that bass part on "Peg", how could you not be curious? But I know he's asked about it constantly, so we seldom discuss Steely Dan. I figure he gets enough of that at clinics and elsewhere.

So one night, after a lull in the conversation.....

Jack: "Listen, Chuck. That bass line in 'Peg'?"

Chuck: (stunned look in my direction) "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeessss...."

Jack: "That was Carol, right?"

There was a brief but frightening moment of silence before he laughed.

Aja is one of my favorite albums of all time!

I have the Classic Album DVD series profiling the making of Aja, and listening to Chuck tell stories of working with Becker and Fagen is great stuff!

That exact MM amp was my main rig for many many years. (With an 18" MM semi reflex cab)

18" speakers...remember those?

haha, no, I don't :D

What did you change your rig to, and why did you change? Just curious.

I know my HD-130 needs new tubes (they rattle) and new caps (they've probably never been changed in 25+ years), do you think this will "fatten" things up a bit? I got the MM amp recently as a 2nd amp, to even compete as my main one. It's great, it's freakin LOUD, but it lacks a little deepness on the bottom end.

For reference, I've been VERY happy with my Peavey Classic 50 for almost 10 years, but thought I'd grow the arsenal a bit.

What a brilliant photo! Is that a Motown session she's playing on??!! Perhaps Jamerson used a 'Ray sometimes? Probably getting into dangerous territory here!

Can't wait to see what else you come up with.

I do recall that quite a few of the gigs I went to in the late 70s early 80s had bass players using Stingrays. Two which spring to mind are Average White Band (both bass players used them), and Climax Chicago Blues Band. But as the Stingray was and still is such a fine and versatile instrument, this should come as no surprise to any of us, eh!!

Please show us more photos though.

I sold the amp years ago when I stopped playing live. I just began playing out recently and am using a G&K 700RB II head with a 410SBX cab.

The HD was great but, to be honest, this amp gives me a much fuller more balanced tone. Also, my main bass then was a G&L. Also, long since gone.

Is that the guy who wears a ball cap in your house?

You mean the New York Football Giants cap I made him wear briefly during the playoffs?

Heh.

Yeah, that's him.
