Just wondering if anyone here uses string lubricating oil, for example Finger-ease.... I'm become somewhat addicted to the stuff and am wondering if that's normal :p

Someone recently recommended using lighter fluid on strings to clean them. I've no doubt it works very well. But the idea of carrying a container of lighter fluid around in my guitar case just doesn't give me a warm, fuzzy, secure feeling. I ran out of Wonder string Wipes yesterday; my first small container. So, let's see... lighter fluid or Wonder Wipes? Anyone got a match? Maybe I can do a little Hendrix action...

Don't recall if it was StringEase I tried awhile back, but it was a spray on container that was suppose to remove string squeak. Didn't care for it, nor would I want anything which leaves residue on the strings or my fingers.

I use the wonder wipes (string cleaner ones) and finger ease. I love both. The finger ease really is a great product. Same goes for the wonder wipes. I'll never use anything but wonder wipes to polish my guitar or condition my fretboard.

I've used Finger Ease, and like it. Wonder Wipes sound interesting. Never heard of them.

The Wonder Wipe string cleaner is actually my favorite one.

Calling it a string cleaner limits the full potential of the product.

It lubricates (like fingerease), cleans grime (like fast fret), and also contains a polymer protectant that eliminates acid and sweat from getting to the core of the wound string.

Good to know I'm not the only one who likes this stuff, or the feeling of oily strings. There's something about a guitar setup well and with nice new greased strings before gigtime.

Don't think I can do the lighter fluid thing, though. Simply because it's lighter fluid.

Thanks for the info, though you may have a bias ;) . Sounds like a good product, but I haven't been able to locate any here in Japan yet. If I ever do, I will be sure to give it a try.

My only gripe is that I don't like throw away cleaners at all. I wish I could find Finger-ease in larger containers so it wasn't so wasteful to use. Same goes with wonder wipes, I would think.

How do Wonder Wipes compare with Fast Fret ? I've used the aforementioned for years (I daren't say the name twice, even quietly!) and love the effect it has on the strings but find I often get too much on and it then makes my fingers feel greasy... and it doesn't clean behind the strings, which I see as a big advantage for Wonder Wipes. But, coming back to my question, do they use similar cleaning/lubricating chemicals or are they totally different animals?

I never liked FingerEase, as I always felt that it left a sticky residue on my strings (and fingers). I am a big fan of Fast Fret, used it for decades. However, I haven't felt the need buy any Fast Fret since I got some EB Wonder Wipes. The string cleaning wipes really do a great job of "de-gunking" the strings without leaving any sort of residue or stickiness. Plus, my Fast Fret sticks always seem to dry out quickly whereas the wipes have held up for months.
