Anyone want a ruined Axis?

Whilst I agree that he is asking a bit too much, I dont think any of the mod's are that bad. If this was my guitar and thats what I wanted the guitar to do, I would not think twice about modding any of my guitars. However you have to take on board that any mod's are going to harm the resale value - something that matey obviously has not taken into account!
 
You gotta admit, this guy's good at taking pictures of guitars (I was taught to always look at the positive first). Maybe I can get that lutier to put some lace-sensor single coil pickups and a tune o matic bridge on my JP6, then he could recut the neck to a 10" radius? Maybe he could put a humbucker in my Martin acoustic when he's done. I don't get it. When I buy instruments, they need to have the features I want from the start.

I guess some people get a kick out of customzing things - look at all the cars that get all the ground effects, graphics and engine enhancements. I like my stock Dodge Pickup or my EBMM JP6 just the way they were designed. Personal preference I guess. :)
 
Well all my EBMM's have stewmac 149 wire in them (as a personal preference), and my Wolfgang has EBMM Dimarzio's, '149 wire and cream knobs, again as a personal preference. My Les Paul had a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck in the bridge and my Guild Brian May looks nothing like what it did when I got it.

I suppose you are either a tinkerer, or your not. And to a degree I am!

At the end of the day they are my guitars that I own and gig, and I can do whatever I like with them....
 
I can't imagine doing any of those modifications to an Axis. All of them are bad IMO. But I do agree that it's personal preference and you can do anything you want to any of your guitars. And the neck shimming and maybe even the pickup mods are reversable.

But:

-If these "improvements" all made the guitar better, why is he trying to sell it?

-Why would you spend that much on a stock guitar knowing that the neck wasn't what you liked, the bridge wasn't set up right, you didn't like the pickups and you needed to add a pot? By the time I realize that about a guitar, I know it's time to look for a different guitar. Maybe he got it as a birthday gift from an exgirlfriend and it was an ugly break up.

-I will say, at least the guy is honest. He doesn't seem to be hiding anything. Between the photos and his description we have a good idea of what he's done to it.

-I think he's dilusional about the price though. He'd do much better just selling it piece by piece.

I have to say, I love these guitars so much that watching someone start grinding away on them 'just because' kind of turns my stomache. And that's coming from someone who has built guitars and enjoys tweaking.

But, whatever floats your boat...

The closeup of the upper frets... YUCK.

They are all uneven hights! And the back of the neck... I can't imagine that the little shelf back there would feel good when you are grabbing an E chord.

The knob placement is wierd, but other than those things I don't think it's that bad. I have a hard time believing that it plays much better. The Axis has a TINY neck. How much smaller does it have be shaved? Maybe flatter, but taking wood off the sides???? Crazy man, just crazy. lol
