Yeah apparantly red/blue/yellow are the best for covers.....black is also a bit of a no no.
Predominantly red mastheaded mags are the best sellers.

I am trying to pull together the next edition of Whisky mag and its the bourbon special. I am looking for some suitably Americana type shots - preferably with whiskey barrels - any one stateside got anything useful?

When I mentioned the greenish Harper's Bazaar to a consultant who tests magazine covers for a number of publishers, he sniffed, "I would think it didn't sell that well." But that issue of Harper's did sell well—8.6 percent better than the January 2005 issue of the magazine, and 8.1 percent better than the December 2005 issue. Which is enough to make you wonder: Is the fear of green just an empty superstition?

This is a widely held opinion, but as we like to try different things we had a green cover this year. It did well too, leading us to believe that either the whole mag instustry world wide is crazy or the only ones buying our rag are total knuckle heads or color blind, or maybe both. Wich, if it is true, is really scary as it's a home theater magazine

Not being stateside I'll drop the whisky barrel ball and turn to my green ball intead

I just spent this holiday with a side of the family I haven't seen in about 20 years out in the middle of nowhere, Arizona. Went to my uncle's wedding in Kirkland, AZ at the bar/grill/brothel there (let's put it this way, the bride and groom exchanged belt buckles...) and got some good shots, but I don't think there were any whisky barrells involved. I'll see what I dug up...

The Kirkland bar/grill/brothel is a trip! I got booked there on a sit in gig. Showed up in pressed shirt and polished shoes!

I felt about as welcome as a porcupine in a nudist colony!

I believe that is Dickel and you are very correct.
Second only to Maker's Mark and that is due to advertising.

The last thing I would look for in a desert is a brothel. But if I couldn't find water yeah that is what i would be looking for. I still think it comes down to how much money you have in your pocket.

Thanks Beth let me know..... I have some options at the moment.

Dickel is a good drop...had the good fortune to try some of Buffalo Trace's experimental bourbons while I was there.....some corking stuff.

Been getting into my Ryes as well at the mo....darn there is just so much to try out.
