Hi everyone, new to the forum, but long time reader. I know that when you're new you're not supposed to list for sale ads. Please note that I am not offering this guitar for sale, keep reading and I'll explain.

Back in 2001 I bought this Ernie Ball Silhouette Special. Last year I joined a band as a bass player and fell in love. I am now a dedicated bass player and am looking to get my hands on a Stingray. I can't afford a stingray outright, and plan on selling my P-Bass. I'm guessing that my P Bass won't cover a Stingray either, and depending on how much I get for it I may consider selling my Silhouette in order to get the Ray.

So, to reiterate, the guitar isn't for sale, but if it does come to it where I would eventually have to, what is a fair asking price for this guitar?

Its a 2001 Ernie Ball Silhouette Special in Blue Dawn (apparently not made in that colour anymore). It's a HSS config with a maple neck and fretboard. VERY well maintained - even wiped the strings after every use. No dings dents or scratches. Case literally still smells brand new. Amazing guitar with no fret wear even.

So once again, what would be a fair asking price. Thanks all!

Nice Silo Spec... pricing sounds about right. You can also go to the local Guitar Center and ask them to price it or even look on GuitarCenter.com and click on their used gear section...

Nice, search ebay to get an idea of value, rare colors etc. go for a little more and thats an original Blue Dawn so has a little more to it and looks to be in great condition. And welcome to the forum almost forgot my manners.

also check the bass side, one of our members, Zombi, is a GC sales rep and has been posting killer price on NOS clearence EBMM basses.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help and the welcomes!

A little back story... back in 2001 I lost my Grandmother (her husband, my Papa, had predeceased her). Anyways, they left me what little money they had and with that money I bought this Silhouette Special so it has extremely sentimental value. The only real way I would consider selling it I think, is if I could get my hands on Stingray in the Blue Dawn colour. I know that Bass Central has some, but they're out of my price range, and I'd want to make sure that I could definitely be guaranteed the bass before I listed the Silhouette.

So yeah, that's basically the story. I'll keep you updated to see how it goes. Oh, and also, based on the amazing customer service and customer satisfaction I have received from Ernie Ball, another bass is not even an option... its and EB or nothing ;)

Normally I wouldn't sell to store, since they need to make money as well, you'll get less. But if GC has a Stingray you want, they might be able to make it worth it.

I would prefer a brand new one. Something that I can keep forever... I thought I would keep this Silo forever, however, based on financial issues combined with my new bass addiction, its tough to justify keeping it. If Zombi has a Blue Dawn Stingray I may try my best to get it... although I'm in Canada and he said its only for the States... I just realized that now... poop.

I think $1000 USD is a fair price to start. The guitar looks to be in good condition, and it is a discontinued color (an awesome one at that). If it doesn't sell, you can always drop the price after a few tries....... you can never raise it!

Would be nice if you can have both. Hate to see a guitar player fully move over to the dark side...er I mean bass without a way back.

(Just kidding of course.)

haha @ paranoid70! In my band there are plenty of guitars to go around. The guitar player in my band was actually the old bass player in our old band, which I played guitar for... that sounds complicated haha. Anyways, he actually still has his Stingray and is contemplating selling it to fund a new guitar, so we're both in the same boat.

We did discuss switching, but we each prefer something different than what the other one has. If I can find a good deal on a Blue Dawn 4 String Ray, then I may put my silo up for sale... we'll have to wait and see.
