Before I start chewing out the phillips heads on the pickup screws, I thought I would ask if anyone knew if these pickups on the Luke model are adjustable? (Up and down)
Thanks,
Generate
I went to a local crafts chain of stores and bought some pieces of stiff but compressable foam of the right size. I cut them and placed them under the pups.
Since they compress, they act like springs which will allow tension enough to be able to make moderate height adjustments.
That sounds like a great idea. Did you notice a change in sound with the pickups being higher to the strings? Did you notice a change in sound not having the pickups contacting the wood body but resting on the foam? Just curious.
Thanks, Generate
Well, I wanted to do it because the bridge pup was so much more powerful than the single coils so I wanted to get the single coils higher.
I'm not really sure if there are any particular advantages of having pups bolted to the body. If anything, getting the pups closer to the strings gets me a hotter signal and a smoother overdrive.
I'm not one of those guys who likes his pickups way down low.
If you try the foam, don't cut a piece that covers the entire bottom of the cavity. Just cut 2 small pieces and put those on each end of the cavity. Either just up against the sides of the screws like I did or try all the way to the edges and have the screw go through the foam. Experiment.
Hey Thanks, those are great suggestions. I think I might try to put the foam under the sides of the pick up like you suggested. *A note to Musicman if you read this: pickups should be adjustable!
