So the guy at my local shop said that my frets are off because they are sticking out too much on the sides. He said that when running your hand down the side of the fret board that you shouldn't be able to feel them that much. He said that this could get worse if the bass was stored in too dry a place. How much do your guys' fell the frets on the side of the fret board?

So do I have a problem or not?

Thanks,

Mike

Sounds like fret sprout. This happens when the wood shrinks and the frets being metal don't. A very simple task for a tech to fix.

But this is a new bass, Jon, and I'm not entirely sure that we're talking about fret sprout. I can feel the frets on my fingerboard edges, too, but they're not sharp or anything. They're just normal.

I've told Mike to get a second opinion before deciding there's a problem, but if there IS a problem, we'll take care of it.

Yep, I'll be taking her to another shop soon to see what they think. I'm glad you guys are so willing to take care of the problem IF it exists. Great customer service :)
