Since the mutes on my 1992 Stingray have partly disappeared, I was wondering if those are available again. It would be great if they could be ordered directly from EB.

Now mine look like this:

Man that is one well used Stingray! I like it!

I normally HATE road worn basses since most are usually fakes but since EBMM has thankfully not jumped on that bandwagon I know every dent and scratch on that baby has a story to tell!

All you need to replace is the foam pads. Go to the hardware store and buy some foam stick-in weatherstripping and cut your own pads from it.
Your bass already has the thumbscrews and spring plate in place, and those were the items eveyone was trying to get.

Either that or an old neoprene mouse pad and double sided tape .....

I got some for my 85 through my local music store, I had the screws but no springs or pads, the best part is I think my music store forgot to charge me for them, I gave them my card # so they would order them, when they showed up they told me I had already paid for them but when I checked my banking online I couldn't find a charge for them (though I could have missed it, I still have no idea how much they cost)

its these little things that makes the difference for some. you know, like buying an american made instrument. nothing else can fill the void.
i myself would love to get original eb replacements for my old buggar. i know the neoprene and other diy solutions works just as well, but its something about the feeling that you cant make yourself.
stupid? perhaps, but still someones feelings ;)

And they are all my own fault. I sometimes look at the bass and try to remember what it looked like when I got it new back in 92, but I just can not remember...

hehe.. i was serious ;)

MrM

i get what you mean. its that "hey these foam things were MADE for this bass." its kinda, to me, like keeping the 100-45 gauge string set on the bass and keeping with ernie ball brand strings cause they were "made" to go with the bass.

also the genuine wear and tear looks AWESOME except for the rust on the pole pieces...that makes me shudder a little

From what I remember, my 77 had foam mutes with a top layer (skin) that had a diamond grid pattern to it. They're long gone now though.
If they were available from EB I'd rather get them there. I like the authentic look.
I'd also like to get an original nut, so I could bring it back to stock specs.

Well, this baby has seen some serious Punk Rock use 'n' abuse, sweat, beer and whatever since it was my main axe for many years. But there also was a time when it didn't get the love it needed and when I took it out of the case one day, there was a little rust. But it's just cosmetically.

awesome that it functions still. i only got one mark on my bass and thats just from me being an idiot and breaking a screwdriver in half whilst adjusting the neck. i heard those poles are easy to clean though.

+1...

My 79 Ray had mutes with the grid on the top layer; just picked up a NOS set from someone on the board here to replace the missing assembly, and the foam is different than the original - softer....

Not really. :D
It's built like a tank it it was not thrown in the water, stored wet or anything. I think it was just condensating humidity and its not really rust, but more some darker spots.

This was my only bass for about ten years and it never let me down.

Back O.T.:

What's the answer now? Are there mutes to buy from EB or not?

Yeh, sorry, my first response might have been a little vague, I phoned EB, they sent me to my local dealer who ordered them in (didn't take long either, to Canada no less) so the answer is: yep.
