Are there any differences between Stingrays from 96 and newer ones?

HI

I own a Stingray build in 96. Of course it's a great instrument and I'm satisfied with the sound. But sometimes I listen to other Bands that play with Stingray and there sound is much better than mine. For example Terror. There bassplayer uses the same Equipment than me (Stingray, Tech 21 Sansamp, Ampeg Amp and Cab), plays with pic and his sound is sooo far away from mine.
So, whats the difference? Electronics? Pickups?

Here you can hear the sound I'm looking for:

There is no difference between the 96 and current 'Ray. IMO, the difference is the player of the instrument.

You can have your gear set up (tone wise etc). Then, at the same time, hand your Bass over to another guy and it's totally different.

Try to get some close up pix of the Terror guy's amp settings and you're half way.

Find out what strings he uses (I'd also suggest he probably changes them regularly), then you just need to fiddle with the Ray's EQ and you'll get there.

All of this is assuming you have the same technique.

Carlos Santana just said something like that in GP magazine a month ago. You could have the same guitar, amp, pedals etc. that he has, and not sound like him.(I have been trying for years! ) It's in the heart and fingers.
