Hey, u talkin to me? NY
Are there certain paint colors and Ball models that are more susceptible to neck pocket stress cracks than others (i.e. Pearl White and Silo’s)?

For a while now I have wanted to get a Pearl White Silo (MH, Vintage Trem) and the recent thread asking for pics of Pearl White balls got me really wanting one again. The main problem that I have found with Pearl White Silo’s was neck pocket stress cracks. I’ve had three different opportunities this year to buy Pearl White Silo’s and all three had the same issue of neck pocket stress cracks. One of the Silo’s (which I ended up buying from a GC in Arizona since the price was so amazing and then unfortunately returning) had deep neck pocket stress cracks on the top and the bottom of the neck pocket. Neither of the guitars looked like they were abused or had any other issues so, I came to the conclusion that this was a combination of a Silo body design and the complex Pearl White paint.

My first EBMM guitar was a used ’90 White Silo and even though I had played the heck out of it and gigged it out, I never had any neck pocket stress crack issues with it (and its standard white paint). The Pearl / Sparkly paints are beautiful and look amazing on any guitar but, are they more susceptible to stress cracks than other paints due to their complex consistency? And are some models more susceptible to neck pocket stress cracks than others due to their body and neck pocket design? For example, I have never had any neck pocket stress crack issues with my Axis’ and ASS’ but, I have seen them on multiple Silo’s and a few JP’s (I have not seen them on SM’s, Luke’s and AL’s). Was this a specific paint issue that was resolved at one point?

Thanks,
Slav:confused:
