an early 1976 sr4 in excellent condition for a very reasonable price

Buy the jazz and resell it at a much less reasonable price. From the difference, buy the ray and pay off the mortage of your house.

i can only buy the jazz if i give it a good home... i promised i wouldnt make money off reselling it if he let me buy it :)
it would be cool with a bass born the same year as myself.. hehe

now the 76 is indeed a b001xxx bass and i will probably buy it even though i shouldnt ;)

edit:

aight.. then the sr4 1976 natural finish bass is on its way to me.. serial b001058... i cant wait till i get my hands on it. it will be interesting to see how the 2 band eq performs and how the instrument works compared to the newer models. i guess i already know, but sometimes you just have to see it yourself to believe it ;)

If the '76 is a very reasonable price, it's a better investment than the Jazz, especially if it has a BOO serial number.

One might argue that an old Fender has already experienced most of the runup in value that it's ever going to get. It would have been a great investment had you bought it for $300 (or whatever) new, but although they aren't getting any more plentiful, they aren't getting much more rare, either, because those that are left are generally being well taken care of.

Unless you (the general "you", not necessarily you in particular) buy a whole lot of vintage instruments and you really know what you are doing, I'd advise buying the instrument that best fits your playing wants and needs and don't worry about the investment potential. Odds are that it's not going to be a profitable move, even in the long run.

Of course, that's free advice and worth every penny you paid for it... :D

Reasonable price my ass xD

You paid a big amount for that bass, Musashi. You could buy 10 hotels in Africa for that price.

Also, hi. :)
